Most young kids will sneak sips of their parents’ alcohol when they’re not looking but Kristen Bell’s children are partial to a non-alcoholic beer.
The Gossip Girl narrator is incredibly open about her parenting style when it comes to her two kids, who she shares with husband Dax Shepard.
In a new interview, she revealed Lincoln, nine, and Delta, eight, have developed a taste for beer but it is of course the non-alcoholic kind.
Kristen appreciates the choice is a slightly odd one, especially when eldest Lincoln tries to order a bottle in a restaurant.
The 43-year-old shared the reason behind it and it’s actually adorable, bringing the girls closer to their dad.
‘My kids have ordered non-alcoholic beers at restaurants before, which sounds insane if you don’t know,’ she shared on the Kelly Clarkson show.
She reminded viewers that ‘context is important’ and began to explain why her two daughters have such a fond love of the beverage.
‘[Dax]’s a recovering addict, but he likes non-alcoholic beer, so he’d pop one open, he’d have [our oldest daughter] on his chest, and we’d walk and look at the sunset,’ she shared with singer and host Kelly.
‘As a baby she was pawing at it, and sometimes she’d suck on the rim of it. So I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family.’
Kristen’s parenting style has raised a few eyebrows in the past as she shared she’s already had the sex talk with her girls.
Last year, on Rachel Bilson’s podcast, she revealed she had explained ‘Daddy and I do this because we have those feelings towards each other’.
She added: ‘There are feelings we each get in our private parts for each other. We also get in our brains and in our bellies.’
Kristen and Dax began dating in 2007 and got engaged three years later, although they did not wed until same-sex marriage was legalised in the States in 2013.
The Paw Patrol: The Movie actor has been sober since 2005 after struggling with substance abuse from the age of 18.
The non-alcoholic beer might be more free-flowing at home but Kristen joked she doesn’t always let them have the drink when out and about.
‘We’ve been at restaurants where she’s said, “Do you have any non-alcoholic beer?” and I’m like . . . maybe we just keep that for home time,’ the actress laughed.
‘But then I’m also sort of like, you can judge me if you want, I’m not doing anything wrong. Like that’s your problem.’
While the non-alcoholic bear might sound odd, it’s nowhere near the strangest confession from the Frozen actress.
Kristen’s previously revealed that to relieve a blocked milk duct she had her husband suck it out of her breast.
