Strictly Come Dancing under threat as Just Stop Oil aim to reach millions

Just Stop Oil protesters rush into road and halt coach

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly been forced to up security following a tip off that Just Stop Oil are planning on targeting the popular BBC Saturday night show, which is hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

It is claimed that the protest group plan to replicate a recent demonstration in Sweden where the eco-group Restore Wetlands stormed the stage during the final of Let’s Dance.

“What happened with Restore Wetlands was genius. That’s absolutely something we’re looking at.

“Strictly Come Dancing has a studio audience so that presents an opportunity to get inside on the night.

“Everyone was talking about that for a long time after. Primetime BBC television with millions watching would be incredible,” a source from the group told The Mirror.

A BBC source told the publication that Strictly has the appropriate security protocols in place and they are taking the threats seriously.

Express.co.uk have contacted Strictly Come Dancing for comment.

This new threat comes just three weeks after the eco-protesters invaded the West End production of Les Misérables much to the dismay of theatre-goers. Following the disruption, police revealed that five people were arrested.

The activists were ruthlessly heckled after they took to the stage with furious audience members shouting “get off” as well as “stupid people”.

Erupting in loud boos as the orange-clad eco-warriors stormed on stage people could be heard questioning the rude act by yelling: “How dare you?!”

Meanwhile other irritated audience members yelled “you nasty people” after the banner-wielding protesters cut off the chorus to the song One Day More in the longest-running musical in the West End.

The environmentalists locked themselves to the set, prompting the Sondheim Theatre to be evacuated and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the stunt.

Before the evacuation took place, Just Stop Oil member Hannah Taylor said: “The show starts with Jean Valjean stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s starving child.

“How long before we are all forced to steal loaves of bread? How long before there are riots on the streets?

“The show cannot go on. We are facing catastrophe. New oil and gas means crop failure, starvation and death. It is an act of war on the global south and an utter betrayal of young people.”
