Top 50 best combos of all time – fish and chips, and eggs and bacon, top list

The top 50 best combos of all time include fish and chips, Del Boy and Rodney – and fries and milkshake, research has revealed. A study of 2,000 adults revealed the things that are better together than they are apart – with Tom and Jerry, bacon and eggs, and tea and biscuits also making the list.

Others included animated favourites such as Wallace and Gromit, Scooby Doo and Shaggy, and Shrek and Donkey.

And popular real-life combos were Prince William and Catherine, Ant and Dec – and Wrexham football owners and Hollywood favourites, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Food featured heavily, taking up 15 places in the top 20 – with Brits loving nothing more than the combination of bread and butter, strawberries and cream, or cereal with a cuppa.

The study was commissioned by Kellogg’s to launch The Kellogg’s Kombos Café, where customers can pick from 25 iconic Kellogg’s cereals, combining their top two for a fun and tasty take on the breakfast favourite.

A spokesman said: “For so many things, a combination of the two is often much better than when it’s on its own. You can combine all of the best bits of the different things you like, and save yourself a whole lot of time trying to choose between the two.

“Foods are often combined together to mix the taste or texture – and many love to do this with their cereal. Why should you have to pick just one?”

The study also found 88 percent believe there are some things that are simply much better when combined – with salt and vinegar, cheese and onion, and gin and tonic, also featuring in the top 50 best combinations.

Meanwhile, fictional characters such as Batman and Robin, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, and Gavin and Stacey were popular, too.

But it emerged such combinations stray into Brits’ own lives, with 47 percent of those who eat cereal admitting to mixing two different types together – and 29 percent even admit to doing so as an adult.

Nearly half (46 percent) think it tastes better that way, while 40 percent do it with two options that complement each other.

Others simply think it’s a fun thing to do (32 percent), enjoy the different textures (24 percent), or can’t decide which one to pick (22 percent) – with one in 20 (five percent) even mixing four or more different types of cereal together.

Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) of the cereal combiners polled, via OnePoll, went as far as to say they love doing so – with 35 percent so keen on it, they have recommended it to someone else.

It also found 87 percent adults tuck into cereal – but while 91 percent opt to have it the “traditional” way, for breakfast, 34 percent turn to it when they want a snack. And 13 percent make up a bowl for lunch, while one in ten do the same for dinner.

A spokesman for Kellogg’s added: “For many, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we don’t want it to be boring.

“Mixing your cereals can brighten up your day, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to tuck into their two favourite cereals in one bowl.”
