The Handmaid’s Tale’s Bradley Whitford Reveals the Surprising Character June Belongs With

It’s hard to find joy in Gilead, the not-feeling-so-fictional-after-all setting of The Handmaid’s Tale. Well, there is Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski), but I think everyone might agree, she’s not exactly the embodiment of joy we want. On a happier note, two of the show’s stars, Bradley Whitford and Max Minghella, sat down with SheKnows to discuss season 5 of their hit dystopian TV show and explain why, exactly, each of their characters loves Elisabeth Moss’s June so much. Plus, Whitford reveals which modern-day politician his character is similar to, and why he believes his character has something that Lindsey Graham lacks.

The Handmaid’s Tale’s central love triangle between June, Nick, and Luke is complicated, to say the least. Minghella weighs in on whether June belongs with his character or Luke. And before he even finishes Whitford says who he believes June’s ultimate soulmate is. Sorry Nick, sorry Luke. Whitford might not be rooting for Nick, but Minghella reveals what exactly draws Nick to June.

Whitford also addresses how he thinks men can be helpful in preventing the dark future that is depicted in The Handmaid’s Tale, you know the one, where women have no rights or bodily autonomy. Hmmm, what does that remind us of? Whitford, who often speaks up on Twitter, says he was disappointed by how men reacted to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. “Where’s the march?”

Watch the video to find out who Whitford wants June to end up with, which politician he believes Commander Lawrence is most like and what Minghella thinks is the main reason why Nick loves June. Maybe her uncanny ability to keep going back to Gilead, no matter how many times she’s able to escape? Ah, love.
