Alec Baldwin has again deleted his Twitter account AGAIN, after being skewered for commenting on Gillian Anderson ‘switching accents’ in what seemed to be a subtle reference to his wife Hilaria’s heritage.
The latest comes just weeks after wife Hilaria’s fake Spanish background scandal.
Anderson won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series for her portrayal of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on The Crown on Sunday.
Anderson, who speaks with an English accent on both Netflix’s The Crown and the Sex Education, surprised some fans when she delivered her acceptance speech in an American accent.
This prompted a surprise from social media users who did not know she was born in Chicago, raised in London and later moved to Michigan at the age of 11.
The latest: Alec Baldwin, 62, has again deleted his Twitter account, amid blowback after a recent tweet he posted over Gillian Anderson’s accent in what seemed to be a subtle reference to his wife Hilaria’s heritage
That comes in contrast to the scandal involving Hilaria that began late last year, who came under fire as she was accused of faking a Spanish heritage and accent when she was born and raised in Boston.
The 62-year-old actor tweeted a link to a CNN piece about the reaction, writing, ‘Switching accents ? That sounds…fascinating.’
The response drew the ire of a number of online users who pointed out the differences between Anderson and his spouse Hilaria.
‘This is no way comparable to your wife pretending to be from Spain,’ one user wrote. ‘Gillian Anderson IS American. How did people not know that? She was born in Chicago and never pretended, outside her acting, to be British. As Thatcher, that was a role. You should know that.’

One user said that Hilaria ‘pretending to have a foreign accent in order to lay claim to a culture and life story that isn’t hers just to exoticize herself is NOT the same thing as Gillian Anderson reasonably speaking two different dialects of English due to her (actual) life story.’
Another said: ‘Gillian Anderson is an actress that is often hired to do roles that require her to speak with a British accent. She spent half her childhood in England and has lived there for 20 years.’
Another acknowledged that the Academy Award nominee’s response was ostensibly to his wife’s defense.
‘Gillian was raised in London from shortly after birth to age 11,’ the user wrote. ‘She adopted an American accent in high school because her peers mocked her. Not the same as a white women raised primarily in the US claiming to be a person of color. But your dedication to your wife is noted.’
Baldwin last left Twitter in January, weeks after Hilaria’s heritage controversy unfolded, writing at the time, ‘Twitter is like a party where everyone is screaming. Not much of a party. Goodbye for now.’
Hilaria’s heritage fell under question in December after a social media thread pointed out inconsistencies in stories she had told the media about her upbringing.

A number of her childhood peers said she grew up in Boston under the name Hillary Hayward-Thomas, and did not speak with a Spanish accent in those years.
She was seen in a 2015 Today show clip seemingly forgetting the world ‘cucumber’ in a cooking segment, which became a social media focal point as the scandal contained to make headlines.
She told The New York Times of the scandal, ‘There is not something I’m doing wrong, and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a boundary.
‘I was born in Boston. I spent time in Boston and in Spain. My family now lives in Spain. I moved to New York when I was 19 years old and I have lived here ever since,’ she told the paper. ‘For me, I feel like I have spent 10 years sharing that story over and over again. And now it seems like it’s not enough.’
Hilaria on February 5 issued an apology over the scandal, saying on social media, ‘The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained – I should have been more clear and I’m sorry.
‘I’m proud of the way I was raised, and we’re raising our children to share the same love and respect for both.’
Baldwin and Hilaria are parents to six children – daughter Carmen, seven, and sons Rafael, five, Leonardo, four, Romeo, two, and Eduardo, five months and newborn daughter Lucia.
