Universal Studios reveals plans for huge 500-acre theme park in the UK | The Sun

UNIVERSAL Studios has confirmed that they are considering launching a brand new theme park in the UK, with fans online getting excited about the possibility.

The rumours surfaced after Universal's owners Comcast and NBC registered the domain names UniversalStudiosGreatBritain.com and UniversalGreatBritain.com earlier this year.

The domains were registered in September, as can be seen here.

Meanwhile, Universal has now confirmed to Sun Online Travel that they have acquired land in Bedford and are exploring the possibility of building a park there.

A spokesperson said: "We recently acquired land in Bedford and are at the early stages of exploring its feasibility for a potential park and resort at this site.

"It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision to proceed and we look forward to engaging with all relevant stakeholders and the local community.”

Universal stressed that they while they do own the land in Bedford, it will still be a long time before they are ready to make a decision regarding whether or not to proceed.

They are still very early in the planning stages of the project and are determining its feasibility.

However, they did confirm that they are always looking at new locations around the world, including in Europe, and added that they see the UK as an attractive place for a potential project.

They like the UK because it has a large population, creative industries, strong tourism, and transportation infrastructure, with close links to other parts of Europe.

Furthermore, Bedford has been chosen as a potential location due to its excellent transportation connectivity to London and Europe, with more than half of the UK population within a two hour journey away.

Additionally, the town is seen as having potential because of its close proximity to Luton airport.

The location would put any new theme park less than half an hour away from Gulliver's Land and less than an hour from Warner Brothers Studios in Watford.

Theme park fans online have been getting excited about the possibility of the park after putting some of the pieces of the puzzle together themselves.

Included in those are theme park bloggers Orlando Park Stop who wrote about the potential development earlier this week.

Adding further fuel to the fire was an unverified concept mock up picture that emerged on X, formerly Twitter.

However Universal said that they have not determined the creative content for any park due to still being in the very early planning stages.

One theme park news account called The Main Street shared the picture, which they said they believed to be from "an internal presentation about new ventures".

The rumours sparked excitement among thrill seekers on social media.

One commented on X: "My God I hope it's true."

Another said: "If this ends up coming through as described it's going to be an incredible theme park experience for Britain."

A third added: "I so hope this is true."

Meanwhile, this was the UK's best theme park in 2023.

And this theme park has announced that it's going to get a new ride for 2024.
