Tourist stunned after being charged £1,300 at Greek restaurant for meal for three

ANOTHER tourist has slammed a restaurant in Mykonos after they were charged more than $1,600 (£1,300) for just three meals.

Cheryl Lamphere, 43, was on holiday on the Greek island earlier this month with her friends when they headed to the restaurant.

Despite saying they weren't hungry, they said they felt pressured to order, and so chose three meals.

This included a plate of calamari, a lobster pasta, a salad, and bread, with meals around $32 each – only to be served huge portions.

She added that her friend ordered a bottle of $214 champagne bottle – but this was charged separately straight away – and started to notice red flags when staff kept their card at the till.

They were also "pestered" by staff to try their oysters throughout themeal, despite continuing to decline.

Cheryl told the Daily Mail: "They knew they were screwing us over, it was all huge amounts of all food."

Despite not eating most of it, they were then given the huge bill, only to be "surrounded by every man in the restaurant".

She said: "It was a very, very scary situation because we were six women being surrounded by five men."

They ended up paying the bill so they could leave the restaurant.

Cheryl isn't the first person to complain about the restaurant – a woman, who was on holiday with her 19-year-old daughter, was charged nearly €600 (£510) for just two drinks and snacks.

And the restaurant's TripAdvisor reviews are nearly all one-star, with many others having similar complaints in recent months.

Complaints include not showing them the menu, only to charge hundreds of euros for alcohol, while some said their bills were thousands of pounds.

The owner responded to one of the negative review on the review website, saying: "There is no free country in the western world that would force us to explain to each customer why we charge the way we do."

Tourists were even being caught out by huge restaurant bills pre-pandemic.

In 2019, a tourist in Greece was left fuming after being charged €591 (£503) for just six pieces of calamari at a restaurant in Mykonos.
