Tiny English coastal village loved by American movie stars – thanks to empty beaches & quaint pubs | The Sun

A SMALL seaside town in the UK has become a favourite hideaway for A-list celebrities, with some people now dubbing it Hollywood-on-Sea.

The likes of Cate Blanchett, Stanley Tucci and Jason Statham have properties in the area, while other big names have also been spotted.

Mawgan Porth in Cornwall is popular for having stunning beaches, while also remaining relatively quiet, compared to some of the county's more popular spots.

Cornwall Beaches described it as being "just far enough from Newquay (4 miles) to avoid the crowds and summer excesses, yet benefit from the same golden sands and beautiful coastline".

They added: "The beach here is sheltered by high cliffs to each side and at low tide there is ample sand for everyone, even on the busiest of days."

More recently, Aquaman star Jason Momoa has been spotted eyeing up a property in the town, while fellow actor Jamie Dornan and Coldplay front man Chris Martin also have homes in the area.

It's not just the beach that has celebs queuing up for a move to the town.

Plenty of dining options in and around the area have glittering reviews on TripAdvisor, with the Ship Inn, the New Yard Restaurant and Fat Apples Cafe all scoring 4.5/5 or above.

Aquaman could also soon be spotted taking up surfing at one of the many surf schools in the town, or playing golf at the local pitch and putt course, built on top of an iron age fort.

Crazy golf, fishing, go-kart racing, bowling and a candle factory are among a number of other activities that can be enjoyed in Mawgan Porth.

The area is also hugely popular with walkers and hikers too, with the South West Coastal Path passing right through.

Some of the coastline was even created by a giant exploring the area, so the legend goes.

The town's website explains: "From here you can walk northwards towards Padstow, passing en route the starkly beautiful and legendary Bedruthan Steps, supposedly created by the giant Bedruthan walking the coastline.

"You can, at low tide, go down the many steps (not those of the giant though) to this long and sandy beach to walk or explore the caves.

"Mawgan Porth and the pretty village of St. Mawgan sit in the perfect location for a peaceful, relaxing and wonderfully memorable holiday here in Cornwall."

For those less interested in getting out for a stroll, the Merrymoor Inn overlooks the beach and is usually open from 10am -11.30pm.

It promises a well-stocked bar that serves a range of drinks including cask ales, with pints available from £4.50.

Locals say that Momoa fell in love with the area when filming nearby and has seen a cliff-top place he has his eye on.

One local told The Sun they were excited about maybe seeing him around the place.

They said: “There is a place on the cliffs which he has apparently fallen in love with and now wants to buy.

“It’s the talk of Mawgan that Jason is going to be the next big star moving in.

“Not everyone is a fan of the celebs coming here but a lot of people think it’s exciting you could be doing your shopping next to Aquaman.”

Someone else who was also impressed by the area was travel Tiktoker On It Book (@onitbook), who shared a video from their recent visit.

A night in Mawgan Porth can be booked from £54 for two people, while camping pitches nearby are available from around £14 per night.
