Terrifying video shows exactly what happens when a plane STALLS in mid air

  • The 10-second clip shows what happens in the cockpit if a plane stalls
  • A voice alerts the pilot saying ‘stall, stall’ before a piercing alarm rings out
  • Shocked TikTok users say they didn’t know this could happen on an aircraft

There’s nothing more terrifying than a plane feeling like it’s dropping mid air – but now one TikTok video has unlocked a new fear: the aircraft stalling while in flight.

The heart-stopping video shows the moment a pilot is in what appears to be a flight simulator, and has to deal with a possible stalling.

The 10-second clip, posted by flight account everything_planes_, was filmed in the cockpit, showing the pilot flying the plane with his co-pilot sitting behind him.

As he flies the aircraft, a voice alerts the pilot to the situation, saying, ‘stall, stall,’ with a piercing alarm ringing out in between.

There’s nothing more terrifying than a very turbulent flight, and one TikTok video has unlocked a new fear: the plane stalling in mid air

Suddenly, a crashing sound is heard while the pilot starts to take control of the stalling aircraft, as it shakes to simulate what would happen if the plane was actually mid air.

Luckily, the pilot is in control of the situation, and doesn’t panic – unlike some of the commenters on the video.

‘Nahhh if I was a pilot and this happened we’re 100% now going to crash because I would panic so hard,’ one user declared.

‘I know for a fact I would start ugly crying if that happens,’ another admitted.

It made a few viewers nervous about some upcoming flights they had booked.

‘I’m going on a plane on Friday don’t do this to me I’m already scared,’ one user begged.

‘Is this RyanAir training?’ another joked.

According to Simple Flying, a plane stalls when the aircraft experiences a reduction of lift.

The outlet explained the wings of a plane are shaped so the air moves faster at the top than the bottom, and the difference in air pressure is what makes the plane actually fly.

‘As the speed of moving air increases, its pressure decreases,’ it was reported.

‘As such, the air pressure on top of the wings is lower than the pressure on the bottom. It is this difference in pressure that provides the lift to the wings for the aircraft to be airborne.’

According to aviation websites, it’s riskiest for a plane to stall at low altitudes during take off and  landing (stock image)

Many commenters on the TikTok video admitted they’d be pretty stressed if they were in charge of flying a plane

scary right? #pilot #cockpit #aviation #plane

Horizontal Aviation explained that when the aircraft stalls, it’s because the angle of attack on the wing has increased too much.

‘The critical angle of attack is the AOA at which the wing generates the most lift it possibly can,’ the website explained.

‘It cannot generate any more lift. Any attempt to increase the angle of attack past this point results in a reduction of lift and a large increase in drag,’ it continues.

‘That is exactly what happens during a stall: lift is greatly reduced and drag goes through the roof.’

If the stall is not corrected, the aircraft will eventually fall – but it can be corrected by pushing the aircraft nose down to reduce the angle of attack.

The website noted it was more serious at low altitudes and during takeoff or landing, but pilots are trained to deal with what do with if the plane stalls.
