Top 10 UK roast dinners of 2021 – from Manchester pub to fine dining in London

Most Brits love a good roast dinner whether it’s on a cold Sunday afternoon or as a mid-week meal.

From roast beef to turkey, nut roasts and crispy chicken the iconic dish has been loved around the nation for centuries as it’s thought that the tradition began in the 15th Century.

Well, now a popular Instagram page has revealed the top 10 roasts of 2021 – but has your local pub made the cut?

Sharing a post on the page, rategoodroasts, which, you guessed it, rates Sunday lunches up and down the UK, listed the best dinners they’d enjoyed this year.

And, the celebrated restaurants span the country from Manchester to Bath, Delp to Underbarrow.

Rate Good Roasts said: “Well here it is… Our Sunday Roast Top 10 List for 2021.

“After another challenging and uncertain year for the hospitality industry, we are proud to share the amazing work of chefs and restaurant across the country.

“Congratulations to this years Top 10.”

Some restaurants and pubs drew for the top spots with the Black Labrador in Underbarrow, White Horse in Church Fenton and The Cricketers in Cobham all snagging an 89% score placing them in joint fifth place.

While the Always Sunday Townhouse in Bath and Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats received a score of 87% putting them in joint seventh.

Top of the list was the Bull & Bear – a Manchester restaurant run by Chef Tom Kerridge which serves comfort food in style and boasts a juicy, delicious roast dinner with fluffy Yorkshire puds.

Its roast beef lunch looks mouthwateringly good.

The Sunday set menu costs £39 for two courses and you can tuck into salted, aged pork belly, Sirloin of beef or even a confit autumn mushroom tart.

Next up was 12:51, in Islington, a London restaurant that puts a creative twist on British classics with meals like turkey leg glazed in Scotch Bonnet jam and Duck ham with pressed potato.

The Sunday roast menu, costing £25, includes 42 day aged sirloin and smoked bone marrow gravy – yum!

Third place was snapped up by the The Wheatsheaf Inn, Brigsteer – a pretty village pub that’s dog friendly and served cracking real ale and delicious roast dinners.

The hotel and B&B boasts a tasty Sunday lunch menu with venison and cranberry sausages, roast topside beef and even 12 hour slow cooked brisket on offer.
