The ‘world's greatest tattoo festival’ returned this week and a lot of the ever lasting ink was as wild and spectacular as ever.

Dozens of the best tattoo artists descended under one roof for the famous Golden State Tattoo Expo.

The three-day event inspired hundreds of ink addicts to travel to California to add some colour to their skin.

It was held at the Pasadena Convention Center with day tickets costing $30 (around £20).

The event usually takes place in January but Covid-19 pushed the date back to this month.

And the thousands who attended had to show proof of being fully vaccinated.

Pictures of the festival showed some of the most tattooed people in the world.

It was hosted by actor Carlos Torres and renowned tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado.

An artist who runs @flippeart_tattoo on Instagram won an award at the festival for this hyperrealistic face portrait.

He wrote on Instagram: "I'm still in a state of extreme happiness.

"This job was what I got as the best of the day at the @goldenstatetattooexpo convention.

"To receive this award directly from Nikko Hurtado was a great dream come true in one of the most respected tattoo conventions in the world."

He added: ""I would like to dedicate this award to God first, my family, friends, and the clients who believe in my work this award is ours."

"This convention is where I see all the artists that inspire me every day and I'm a fan of each one of them.

"Being able to be there in that place doing what I love alongside great names is a true dream."

If you fancied attending a similar event a bit closer to home, then you’re in luck because London’s calling.

The Great British Tattoo show is being held on October 23 and 24 at the capital's Alexandra Palace.

Over 300 tattoo artists are set to offer their service for the two-day event.

It's also a great opportunity to eye-up some of the top body art in the country.

Early bird tickets are now on sale with a day pass costing £20 while weekend passes cost £25.

A paying adult can also bring kids under 14 for free.
