Diversity in film and television has been a constant struggle for actors, directors, and producers of color for many years. As time progressed, the Hollywood landscape has as well, with more opportunities existing for Black creators to tell stories that resonate with several demographics, regardless of race.
Notable Black production companies such as Overbrook Entertainment, Array, 40 Acres and a Mule, Tyler Perry Studios, CubeVision, Oprah’s Harpo Productions, among others, have produced critically acclaimed and award-winning content, which allowed a new generation of minority owned-and-operated production companies to flourish in the ever-changing industry of film and television.
As Hollywood continues to diversify, we will continue to have more stories written and directed by Black men and women. And these young Black production companies below offer just a sampling of what’s to come.
