Peace lilies look unhappy if damaging mistake is made – takes 30 seconds to fix

Peace Lily: The best ways to keep you plants looking good

Peace lilies are immensely popular houseplants. This is not surprising, given their lovely white flowers and low light needs.

A peace lily can be grown by a beginner houseplant enthusiast, but that doesn’t mean they can’t run into issues.

After all, this indoor plant is considered to be a drama queen when it comes to certain care needs like watering and moisture levels.

What’s more, their leaves can quickly start to yellow and droop under some circumstances, just like one peace lily owner experienced.

Taking to the Gardening UK Facebook page, one woman asked for advice after noticing that her peace lily was starting to look “unhappy”.

Mary Simmonds wrote: “Good morning folks, I have had this plant peace lily for over six years.

“It has been repotted a number of times, and also split to create more plants.

“It has been in the same spot and always looked beautiful, but lately I have seen a number of yellow leaves – seems each day I cut one off.

“Any ideas as to why it is looking unhappy like this after all this time?”

Alongside the post, Mary shared photos of the peace lily with most of its leaves having turned yellow.

Fellow gardening enthusiasts in the comments section argued that the reason for the yellow leaves could be a result of a lack of fertilising.

Sara Jane Moore commented: “It looks like a tiny pot. Have you fed it?”

Wise Littlebee wrote: “It’s a nutrient deficiency most likely needs a feed. Also, the pot may need to be larger giving the roots room to thrive and feed. It looks really healthy though so should take around 30 seconds to fix.”

Simon Sheppard said: “A lack of feeding is damaging for them. Peace lilies that stay in the same pot for a long time need to be fertilised.”

Charlotte Warren advised: “Use diluted houseplant fertiliser on your peace lily, the yellow leaves will be gone in no time.”

The areas surrounding veins in the leaves of peace lilies will turn yellow if the plant is suffering from a lack of nitrogen, iron, or magnesium.

Mary later took to the comments section to share how the peace lily was doing, she said: “Have taken your advice folks and repotted my plant and given it a good feed. Looks better already, thank you.”
