Waitrose issues urgent food recall on cake amid serious allergy fears

A food recall is put in place when there is a discovery of safety issues or product defects that might endanger the consumer or put them at risk. The latest product recall comes from Alternative Foods London Ltd.

Alternative Foods London Ltd is recalling its OGGS Zesty Lemon Cake.

The current recall is in place as it contains soya which is not mentioned on the label.

That means this food item poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.

The OGGS Zesty Lemon Cake 386g is sold at supermarket Waitrose.

If customers have purchased this cake and have an allergy to soya, Waitrose urges customers to package the item up and return it to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund.

The cake brand is also sold at Sainsbury’s and Asda although they are yet to publish a food recall statement. 

Other food recalls are also in place at the moment including foods like seafood and vegan sausages.

Several retailers including Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Asda and Waitrose are recalling several batches of frozen seafood because of the possible contamination with salmonella.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include a fever and abdominal cramps.

Sainsbury’s is recalling its by Sainsbury’s Mussels (chilled), by Sainsbury’s Cockles (chilled), by Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (chilled), by Sainsbury’s Cooked Cockles (frozen), by Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels (frozen) and by Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (Frozen).

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have recalled our by Sainsbury’s Chilled and Frozen Mussels, Cockles and Seafood Selection across every date code. 

“We are asking customers who have bought these products not to consume them and return to their nearest Sainsbury’s store where they will receive a full refund. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Co-op is also recalling its Cooked Mussels from the chilled aisle and all batch codes are affected.

Waitrose is also recalling its Essential Frozen Seafood Selection 250g with all use by dates up until January 2022 affected.

The Waitrose Essential Cooked Seafood Selection 200g is also being recalled by the retailer with all use by dates from December 20 to January 20 affected.

Customers should return all products to the store where the food items were brought from for a full refund.
