Ricotta toast is TikTok's latest food trend – here are three recipes to try

Move over avocado, toast has a new creamy companion.

Ricotta on toast is the latest food trend that’s doing the rounds on TikTok and even has the seal of approval from celebrities such as Lizzo.

More and more people are falling in love with the simple cheesy topping – which can be elevated in all kinds of ways, by adding either sweet or savoury ingredients.

From honey and jams to tomatoes and herbs, there are so many different options to experiment with.

Andrew Dixon, head chef tutor at The Cookery School at York’s The Grand, delves into why he thinks the Italian cheese is growing in popularity.

He tells Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s a great ingredient to work with as you’ll find it in almost every supermarket and it provides a fantastic base for a variety of different toppings – whether sweet or savoury.

‘Plus, in comparison to other cheeses, it is a healthier option with less salt and fat, and higher levels of protein.’

He adds: ‘Social media has been a real driving factor recently for many food trends and provides a great way for people to learn how to make new recipes and get inspired to experiment in the kitchen.’

So, are you ready to give it a go?
