The humble jacket potato breaks the mould when it comes to comfort food. Cheap, substantial and versatile, it’s a lunchtime dish that’ll keep you full for hours, as well as a tasty side for dinners.

Despite its simple nature, there is a certain way to cook them, according to a Michelin-trained chef.

Poppy O’Toole, also known as @poppycooks on TikTok has shared a jacket potato recipe which has been watched by thousands of people.

The chef captioned the video: “The only way to make jacket potatoes in your air fryer.” She claimed that it’s the “perfect” recipe.

Poppy said: “I’ve been listening to you guys and I know you want quicker, cheaper and more energy-efficient recipes and I know a lot of you are using air fryers, so here’s my how-to for the perfect air fryer jacket potatoes.”

The first step is to get some big potatoes, Poppy was using two large Maris Piper potatoes in the video.

Once you’ve chosen your potatoes pierce them all over with a fork and massage them with vegetable oil.

Poppy then proceeded to place the potatoes in the air fryer and sprinkled a generous amount of sea salt over them.

Cook the potatoes at 170 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes, then put them back in for a further 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
