The stars you had no idea once worked in McDonald’s – from Love Islanders to Brian McFadden & Pink

NOT ALL celebrities started out as the super-famous stars they are today. In fact, some of them even started their careers at McDonald's.

Yes, you heard that right, there's a number of celebs that have flipped some burgers, scooped up the golden fries into the famous red packaging and served up some Happy Meals.

Celebs like Rachel McAdams and Pharrell said they weren't great at the job, while others like Jeff Bezos, and Pink have admitted their stint at McDonald's played a big role in their lives.

Even Love Island stars have worked a stint at McDonald's, with a picture ofSharon Gaffka working at the fast food chain recently emerging – revealing her life before being a beauty queen and working for the civil service.

The 25-year-old, who has since been dumped from Love Island, claimed she stood out in her hometown of Didcot, near Oxford – but one social media user was keen to show the real her.

Posting the picture, which sees her in the McDonald’s uniform, the person wrote: "Sharon from Love Island saying she's only ever dated bankers or doctors. Don't forget your roots.

“And the comment 'I stand out in Didcot, I mean look at me'. Oh please! Look at all the work you've done to 'stand out'," they added after Sharon previously bragged on the show: "Of course I stand out in Didcot, look at me.”

But not to worry Sharon, you’re not the only star out there to have worked for the Golden Arches before.

Here's a whole host of celebs who are ex employees of McDonalds…

JEFF BEZOS

Before he was one of the world's richest men, Jeff Bezos worked at McDonald's.

In an interview for Golden Opportunity: Remarkable Careers That Began at McDonald's, he revealed that he particularly enjoyed working Saturday mornings.

He said: “I would get a big bowl and crack 300 eggs in it.”

The Amazon CEO revealed working at McDonald's as a 16-year-old made him obsessed with automation and managing employees.

He added: “My first week on the job, a five-gallon, wall-mounted ketchup dispenser got stuck open in the kitchen and dumped a prodigious quantity of ketchup into every hard-to-reach kitchen crevice. Since I was the new guy, they handed me the cleaning solution and said, 'Get going!'"

BRIAN MCFADDEN

Former Westlife star Brian McFadden worked at McDonald's on Friday evenings as a teenager.

The singer, who had two kids with Kerry Katona before their split in 2004, had reportedly just finished working a shift at the Golden Arches when he found out about Westlife.

He joined his friends at a party and learned auditions for a new Irish boyband, to be managed by Louis Walsh, were taking place the following day.

Brian turned up at the audition and volunteered to sing Boyzone track Picture of You.

The future pop star secured his place in the band, but has never forgotten his McDonald’s days.

He joked in an interview with The Mail on Sunday: "I sometimes wonder how far up the career ladder I'd have gone if I'd stayed with McDonald's.

“With a bit of luck, I reckon I might have made it as far as the restaurant manager!”

RACHEL MCADAMS

Hollywood actress Rachel McAdams also donned the famous green uniform before her time in the spotlight.

The Mean Girls star, 42, did a three-year-stint at McDonald’s but Rachel admits she wasn’t the best employee – and even broke a machine while working there.

The A-lister told the New York Times about her life before fame and said: “I had a small town life – I worked at the local McDonald's for three years.

“It was a great place to work, but I was not a great employee. I broke the orange juice machine one day.”

In another interview, Rachel confessed: “I had a little bit of an OCD thing with hand washing and just didn't have time.

“They were like, 'Hey, the drive-thru's backing up. Stop washing your hands!'”

PHARRELL WILLIAMS

Producer Pharrell Williams was fired three times from McDonald’s – and surprisingly, it was for being lazy.

But the 48-year-old singer joked to Seth Meyers that the only thing he was good at while working there was 'eating chicken nuggets’.

During an appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyer in 2015, the Happy singer revealed: “I got fired from McDonald’s, three times, not just once. I was lazy. I was very lazy.”

Pharrell said he remembered getting distracted by the music when he was supposed to mop the dining area – oops!

LUKE PITTARD

One of the Lotto winners ended up working back at McDonald’s after getting millions.

McDonald’s worker Luke Pittard won £1.3million in 2006 aged 25 but ended up going back to flipping burgers in the fast food chain, where he was paid £5.85 an hour.

Luke, from Cardiff, applied to get his old job back just 18 months after his win because he missed his old workmates.

He said: “They all think I’m a bit mad but I tell them there’s more to life than money.

“I loved working at McDonald’s before I became a millionaire and I’m really enjoying being back there again.”

JAY HUTTON

He may be less famous than some of the stars on this list, but E4 Tattoo Fixers' Jay Hutton revealed his first ever job was in McDonald’s.

And the artist, 31, is not embarrassed about his employment at the fast food restaurant chain and even helped his local McDonald’s to promote employment in recent years.

He said: “Working at McDonald’s gave me skills for life that helped me on my path to becoming an entrepreneur.

"McDonald’s was my first job and it gave me the tools and confidence to build my own business.

“It might not be a skill I still use, but I’m particularly pleased to say I could still make a Big Mac perfectly!”

PINK

Pop singer Pink says she is still haunted by nightmares about working at McDonald's in her hometown of Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

In an interview with Food & Wine, the singer explained how important it was to her family that she ‘made her own money’.

The star, 41, said: “It was important to my family that I make my own money. I was a drive-through girl at McDonald's. I had a Janet Jackson microphone – I had power.”

But she doesn't look back and remember her employment at McDonald’s as a fun experience, as it sometimes causes her nightmares.

Back in 2009, Pink – real name Alicia Moore –  revealed: “Sometimes I dream I am back there, broke and working at McDonald’s.

“It's like the worst nightmare because I would never want to be back there. I've worked hard to get where I am.”

SEAL

In 2011, singer Seal told The Guardian that his stint working at McDonald's was the worst gig he's ever had.

He reportedly hated it so much that he barely lasted  two weeks – which was just long enough to earn one paycheck.

The singing icon, 49, admitted he was "outta there" as soon as he could be.

He said: “The worst job I ever had was in McDonald's in Kentish Town. I stayed two weeks, until I got my first paycheck, then I was outta there.”

NE-YO

Another singing sensation that only lasted two weeks at the fast food chain, was Ne-Yo.

The Let Me Love You singer revealed McDonald’s was his first ever job but he only managed to stay for a fortnight before walking out.

He told MTV News: “I loved it until I got yelled at for putting too much salt on the fries.

“My manager clearly took his job way more seriously than he should have, so I politely handed the guy my name tag and my little hat and I walked out.”

But Ne-Yo admitted it doesn’t change the fact that he still loves McDonald’s, adding: “I have a small place in my heart that only McDonald’s can fill.”

CHELSEA FERGUSON

TV star Chelsea Ferguson has gone from working at McDonald's to becoming a millionaire.

Chelsea, a 33-year-old from Hartlepool, used to earn a living in McDonald's but now serves customers a subscription-based social media site which turned over £15m in its first two years.

The successful businesswoman, who is the owner of AdmireMe, recently appeared on Adults Only – a document following strictly adult occupations – which aired on Channel 5.

She’s a self-made millionaire Chelsea and now charges £15 per month for fans to follow her on AdmireMe VIP.
