The Queen eats fruit out of this unlikely container while at Balmoral, former chef reveals

SHE MAY live in a palace – or three – but the Queen really is just like the rest of us when it comes to mealtimes.

According to her former chef, the monarch, 95, has a rather relatable eating habit.

In an interview with Marie Claire, ex-royal staffer Darren McGrady indicated that Her Majesty is quite down-to-earth with how her dishes are served.

The chef said: "People always say, 'oh, the Queen must eat off gold plates with gold knives and forks.'

"Yes, sometimes… but at Balmoral she’d eat fruit from a plastic yellow Tupperware container."

He also revealed that she'd usually have a "simple" breakfast of Kellogg's cereal from a plastic container, along with a cup of Darjeeling tea.

McGrady cooked for the Queen for 15 years, along with the late Princess Diana as well as Prince William and Prince Harry when they were younger.

The monarch has been staying up in Balmoral, her Scottish castle, since early August.

Her former chef also told the magazine in the 2017 interview that the royals are much more "relaxed" at their Aberdeenshire residence.

He noted that the late Prince Philip, who passed away earlier this year, used to get enthusiastically involved with dinnertime.

The Duke of Edinburgh would, according to McGrady, ask: "Do we have any salmon that any of the family have caught?

"The queen's been picking strawberries with Princess Margaret, let's have those for dinner."
