Fashion hits and misses for stars born in March

It’s hard to believe, but March is already upon us! Wonderwall.com is rounding up the stars who celebrate their birthdays this month and taking inventory of their best and worst fashion moments… starting with the one and only Lady Gaga! The superstar celebrates her birthday on March 28 every year, and when it comes to her style hits and misses, well, there’s a lot to pick from! Instead of an obvious choice like the meat dress, we’re going with her premiere look at the debut of the “Gaga: Five Foot Two” documentary in 2017 for… many reasons. Namely, the insane custom Lanotta Studio leather jacket, which featured multiple fabrics and patterns. When it came time to add pants, she selected wild Colin Horgan liquid trousers that featured a bell-bottom cut and conflicted with the pastel shades she had going on up top. Keep reading to see our favorite look from the fashion-forward diva…

Picking a favorite Lady Gaga fashion moment was equally tough! But ultimately, we had to go with this frilly feathered Valentino Couture design she wore to the “A Star is Born” premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2018. The pale pink shade popped on the red carpet, and when accessorized with dazzling Chopard jewels, this look went down in the Gaga fashion history books.

Our least favorite Lupita Nyong’o red carpet look? She usually tops our hits lists, but we weren’t wild about this Giambattista Valli number she wore to the 2019 NAACP Image Awards. From the dramatic oversized sleeves to the center slit to the dull shade, compared to her usual show-stopping ensembles, this was seriously underwhelming. Now let’s see a much more impressive look from the actress, who celebrates her birthday every year on March 1.

Lupita Nyong’o had a serious Cinderella moment at the 2014 Academy Awards. She arrived in this pale blue Prada confection fit for a Disney princess and featuring a plunging neckline and full skirt then ended up taking home an Oscar — the ultimate accessory!

Nope! At the 2015 Critics’ Choice Awards, Reese Witherspoon — who was born on March 22 — arrived in this dual-toned hot pink and black design by Lanvin. To be honest, we weren’t entirely sure what was happening with the dress — which had some sort of tail that turned into a train — but we know we didn’t like the color combination or the cut. We’ll be taking a look at one of her standout fashion choices next…

A bold yellow Atelier Versace number takes the top spot in our hearts when it comes to Reese Witherspoon’s style. The star donned the strapless and expertly fitted frock, which featured ruching on the bodice and a thigh-high slit, for the 2017 Golden Globes. She wisely chose diamonds and gold around her neck to add another yellow element and opted for a a simple updo and pretty pink lip to tie it all together.

Bryce Dallas Howard is a March 2 baby! Though we appreciated her nod to her Pisces water sign with this electric blue gown, the all-over print and long sleeves made this dress by The Vampire’s Wife a huge miss. She wore the bold and funky frock to the premiere of “Rocketman” in 2019.

This Solace London gown was our favorite look from Bryce Dallas Howard. The star wore the sleek black dress — which featured a seriously low neckline, ruffled sleeves and a backless silhouette — to the 2017 BAFTAs, scoring major fashion points in the process. We loved the way she rocked a red lip and high bun with the frock too.

Also a Pisces? Lily Collins, who blows out her birthday candles on March 18 every year. While she’s known for her stellar red carpet moments, she really let us down in 2019 when she wore this ensemble to the “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” premiere. The Saint Laurent minidress was already a statement enough on its own — especially with the one wild star-printed sleeve and sequins — but when paired with those bold polka dot tights, the look turned more costume-like than red carpet ready.

This one’s a work of art! Lily Collins donned this intricately beaded Alexander McQueen dress for the Costume Designers Guild Awards in 2017, marking one of her most memorable couture moments in our books. From the all-over patterns on the long sleeves and floor-length skirt to the way she expertly matched her lipstick shade, we loved this elaborate, exquisite ensemble.

Keira Knightley celebrates her birthday every year on March 26! Though the British star has been known for her exquisite fashion choices, we can’t vouch for this look she wore to a BAFTA event in her honor in 2018. The actress arrived in a very bold dress by The Vampire’s Wife that featured contrasting loud prints at the sleeves and down the bodice and full skirt.

Nearly a decade ago, Keira Knightley arrived at the Venice Film Festival premiere of “A Dangerous Method” in one of our favorite frocks ever on her. This golden lace Valentino number featured long sleeves and a full skirt and provided just the right amount of sparkle for an elegant evening. She smartly kept things simple with her beauty look and easy updo, ensuring the focus was on the dress.

Where do we start? Jessica Chastain might be a March 24th birthday girl but we wouldn’t be celebrating this look she chose for the “Dark Phoenix” premiere in 2019. The Maticevski ensemble featured a half-dress, half-pants silhouette and had to be complemented by an unwanted accessory — a black wrist cast. She completed the look with hoop earrings, an intricately braided updo and white platform sandals.

This one-shouldered Elie Saab gown wowed us at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Jessica Chastain arrived wore the stunning purple gown that featured plenty of ruching, a belt detail and a beautiful flowing skirt to the premiere of “Foxcatcher.” She added intricate drop earrings and wore her hair curly and down for the occasion, adding to the allure.

Jessica Biel, who was born March 3, sported this confounding ensemble at a Facebook Watch event in 2019 — marking our least favorite look ever from the star. The head-to-toe Louis Vuitton getup was just… a lot thanks to a bold patterned blouse tucked into a black tulip miniskirt that culminated in a pair of clashing brown knee-high boots.

The 2018 Emmys is where Jessica Biel rocked our favorite look yet — this strapless Ralph & Russo confection. The white frock featured a textured fabric from the fitted bodice to the full skirt that culminated in a glamorous train, making it one of her most memorable red carpet moments.

From the length to the overdone sequins, we weren’t crazy about March 7th birthday girl Rachel Weisz’s look at the premiere of “The Favourite” in 2018. Her short-sleeved dark purple sequined midi-length dress by Alexander McQueen just fell flat on the red carpet.

Our favorite Rachel Weisz look took place at the 2019 BAFTAs where she arrived in a dreamy design by Gucci. The ethereal frock featured layers of fluffy white tulle at the neckline, a stunning embellished belt and a full layered tulle skirt.

Yikes! Eva Longoria, who opens birthday presents every year on March 15, once donned this mermaid-lizard hybrid frock by Atelier Zuhra at an event during the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. The sleeveless design featured a textured fabric, a partially sheer skirt and bizarre piping down the front, resulting in a major fashion miss that even her funky black sandals and perfect top bun couldn’t fix.

A chic white moment made up for that green disaster during Eva Longoria’s 2019 Cannes Film Festival stint. We adored this Alberta Ferretti design that featured a dual-styled front. One-half had just the right amount of embellishments — a ruffled miniskirt and train — and the other half remained simple and conservative as it flowed to the floor. She added show-stopping diamond drop earrings and rocked her hair slicked back for a gorgeous red carpet moment.

Olivia Wilde celebrates her birthday every year on March 10. Though she’s been known to take some fashion risks, this look at the Patron of the Artists Awards in 2019 didn’t pay off. The Valentino frock featured a bib-style bodice over an otherwise sheer top half — an interesting choice for an otherwise conservative silhouette. It also included a leaf motif throughout that added splashes of neon green — a puzzling addition. Next up? A look at our favorite Olivia look…

Back at the 2009 Golden Globes, Olivia Wilde arrived looking like royalty. She opted for a lovely lilac ballgown by Reem Acra that featured a structured bodice and textured full skirt separated by the lovely addition of a thin embellished belt detail. She added some massive diamond earrings to the mix and rocked her dark hair down and straight.

A jacket… backwards? This weird Dior ensemble aside, March 30 should be a worldwide holiday! It’s fashionista and phenomenal singer Celine Dion’s birthday. Though we’re starting with her worst look — this white suit she wore to the 1999 Academy Awards that included a white backless jacket, baggy trousers and a funky hat — there are more good than bad ensembles in her arsenal…

The world is her runway! Celine Dion is known to go all out for fashion weeks, so it’s no surprise that our favorite Celine look comes from Paris Fashion Week in 2019. The superstar arrived for the Valentino show wearing a stunning white minidress by the designer that featured feather details and jeweled embellishments and paired perfectly with those silver strappy sandals.
