Taylor Swift sends powerful 'revenge' message on night out with Sophie Turner

Taylor Swift has been hailed as the ‘ultimate revenge pal’ for Sophie Turner after they were spotted enjoying another evening out together in New York.

The Game of Thrones actress was spotted out with the Bad Blood musician on Thursday evening, shortly before filing a bombshell lawsuit against ex Joe Jonas, regarding the custody of their children.

In the court documents, the 27-year-old accused the Sucker singer, 34, of withholding their daughters’ passports in the US, meaning that they cannot travel to England with her – something his reps have since denied.

Hours after submitting the paperwork, Sophie was spotted out with pal Taylor – who famously dated Joe in 2008 before their brief romance ended in heartache – for a second time.

Unsurprisingly, the evening out raised eyebrows among fans, with the Grammy-winner seen confidently strutting into dinner with the mom-of-two and their pals.

Unpacking the outing, author and body language expert Judi James told Metro.co.uk: ‘Taylor is the perfect “Revenge Pal” for Sophie, with her A-list credentials and the ways she dated Sophie’s soon-to-be-ex-husband Joe before her.

‘It’s usually the Revenge Dress that does the trick but seeing these two women together must surely send shivers down the Jonas spine, especially as Taylor’s body language signals suggest utter confidence and assertiveness here, as though she is taking Sophie under her wing.

‘Sophie’s projecting a rather more vulnerable look, using several methods of covering her face from the cameras, including shielding with her hands and her bag. But behind those barrier gestures she is managing a rather knowing-looking smile, even though her eyes are mainly directed downward.

‘Sophie and Taylor make a formidable-looking double act with Taylor appearing to be in the role of supporter and protector right now, with just the faintest hint of any “I told you so”.’

Sophie and Joe tied the knot in 2019 after around three years of dating, but left fans stunned when they confirmed their divorce in a joint message on Instagram.

On Thursday, the Do Revenge star filed documents in Manhattan, requesting to secure ‘the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained’, alleging that the ‘wrongful retention’ began on September 20.

According to the paperwork, obtained by PageSix, it was claimed that the former couple had previously agreed to move to England together, and were said to be ‘excited’ for the next step in their lives.

After relocating to the UK in April, Sophie is said to have started filming for her upcoming project, Joan, before Joe then embarked on a tour with his brothers – but they were able to agree ‘with hesitation’ on a ‘temporary arrangement’ for the kids to be with him during this period as he would have more free time.

In the documents, it was claimed that their marriage then broke down ‘very suddenly’ following an alleged argument in August.

‘The father has possession of the children’s passports,’ the paperwork reportedly added. ‘He refuses to return the passports to the mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the mother.’

A spokesperson for Joe – who filed for divorce in Florida – denied the allegations that he is withholding their passports, sharing a lengthy statement with Metro.co.uk, which read: ‘Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting.

‘Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.

‘Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.’

‘Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK. The children were born in the US and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the US. They are American citizens.’
