Noel Gallagher receives six-month driving ban despite never getting a licence

Noel Gallagher has been banned from driving for six months over a series of unpaid speeding tickets – despite not actually holding a driving licence himself.

The chart-topping singer and musician, 56, who famously never learned to drive, has also been fined almost £2,000.

Lavender Hill magistrates court heard the case on Wednesday, which addressed unpaid speeding tickets from November 2022 and February this year.

Former Oasis star Gallagher, who is chauffeured around in a £120,000 Range Rover, was previously in trouble with the law in June over failing to answer Metropolitan Police letters regarding a speeding ticket.

Despite his driver owning up to the correspondence mix-up and the speeding – the car was clocked by a speed camera traveling at 41mph on a 30mph stretch of the A40 near Edgware Road station – as the registered owner of the vehicle, Gallagher was prosecuted and pleaded guilty.

He received six penalty points on his licence, a £742 fine and costs and court fees totalling £396.

Yesterday, the High Flying Birds frontman’s letter was read in court, in which he accepted responsibility for further unanswered letters regarding speeding fines.

‘I did not personally receive the notice or the reminder, and neither were brought to my attention by my staff,’ the star wrote, according to the Evening Standard.

‘I have a team of people who assist me with the management of my personal and business matters, which includes correspondence that is sent to my home address.’

However, he acknowledged that it was his ‘responsibility as the registered keeper of a motor vehicle to ensure that suitable and effective arrangements are in place to safeguard against important correspondence not being dealt with as required’.

Gallagher, who recently revealed the reason behind his recent four-letter word rant about Adele, also confirmed that after the previous court case ‘necessary improvements have been implemented’.

He added: ‘Once my management team notified me about the receipt of the court documentation concerning this matter, the original notice was completed, identifying the driver, and returned.’

The star’s driver, Alan Neeson, previously also submitted a written statement in the first prosecution from the end of May in which he said he was ‘solely responsible for correspondence and other matters regarding vehicles’ and confirmed that his employer does not hold a licence.

Magistrates have now handed Gallagher a further 12 penalty points and an automatic six-month driving ban after that made for a total of 18 points on his licence (were he to have one).

This came after Gallagher’s Range Rover was caught breaking a 30mph speed limit twice, by doing 35mph on November 30 and 41mph on January 2.

Due to the ban, he will not be able to drive himself for the next six months, but is able to continue being chauffeured.

He was also ordered to pay £1340 in fines, £110 in prosecution costs and a £536 court fee, totalling £1,986.

The Don’t Look Back In Anger singer has been given a week to pay the bill after he confirmed in his letter that he was willing to pay any financial penalties.
