Nanushka FW21 Is a Discourse on Fantasy and Reality

Nanushka presents its Fall/Winter 2021 lookbook, entitled Forced Perspective, which further explores last season’s theme of surrealist archetypes of optical illusion. This season, the FW21 collection is a discourse on fantasy and reality, heavily considering the ideals of naivety and creative optimism.

Nanushka creative director, Sandra Sandor draws inspiration from Dali’s installation at his Theatre-Museum in Girona, Spain. Sandor said, “I started thinking about how a person’s features affect our opinions of them, and how wearing masks has made life feel quite anonymous. It led me to consider what we reveal and what we conceal in a new way. Although imaginative, Forced Perspectives does not violate the assumption that clothes are objects designed primarily to be worn – and worn in real life. Form and function is always at the core of Nanushka.”

Throughout the collection, the brand’s vision of responsible luxury is carried within the craftsmanship and material innovation of the pieces. This collection sees Sandor work with regenerated and Vegan leather, rethinking outerwear with elevated use of responsible material in both fabric and silhouette.

Nanushka’s menswear continues to combine juxtaposing elements to create a surrealist composition. The outerwear pieces feature pops of color and intriguing patterns creating additional textures to the pieces, contrasted with unexpected fringed hems and trailing sash details. The laid-back architecture of the pieces set the tone for the collection, re-routing traditional techniques while creating an intrinsic sense of modernity.

For this collection, Nanushka has re-arranged the house’s monogram, revitalizing its Nanushka symbol logo-driven line to a more novelty print explored in a variety of design implementations. FW21 brings forward a slew of Nanushka accessories, such as a boxier shape cross-bags and leather goods, Busoinspired headwear and detachable collars that continue to subvert the notions of tradition.
