Junya Watanabe MAN has teamed up with Jamiroquai front-man Jay Kay for its Fall/Winter 2022 collection.
Jay Kay, who founded the British jazz-funk band in 1992, became renowned not only for his supreme vocals and songwriting through the ‘90s, but for his bold sense of style which drew inspiration from the Iroquoian family — the Native American tribe in which the band takes its name — and other indigenous cultures of the world.
Now, together with the front man and The Secretariat of Culture of Mexico, Junya Watanabe MAN presents an FW22 collection that expertly pairs the Japanese designer’s classic aesthetic and palette, with the colorful and vibrant patterns of the Iroquois and Jay Kay’s extravagant looks.
Highlights include outerwear which is draped in vivid indigenous patterns in collaboration with Pendleton Woolen Mills, as mis-matched patchwork designs adorn a selection of zip-up jackets, sweaters and legwear, while headwear — a major part of Jay Kay’s look — arrives courtesy of London-based designer Benny Andallo.
Further collaborations teased include Levi’s, Karrimor and Carhartt, as well as footwear alongside New Balance and Stepney Workers Club following its FW21 release.
