Kerry Katona, 42, has decided to homeschool her 15-year-old son, Max, as he reportedly found traditional education “really difficult to cope with”.

In her column for New magazine, the mum-of-five revealed that her only son suffers from “severe” attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

She also stated that the decision to pull him out of school wasn’t easy and that she sought advice from teachers and a psychiatrist before taking further action.

Regarding the move, she said: “We’ve decided to pull him out after speaking to a psychiatrist and his teachers.

“He’s got severe ADHD and finds the environment really difficult to cope with.”

According to Kerry, Max’s behaviour has seen him “sent home from school as much as he was going in”.

The star said Max will now begin taking medication to manage his disorder.

This is despite previously being against the idea due to how she was treated by the public while taking bipolar medication.

She said: “At first I said no because of the way I was treated when I was on medication, but it’s got to the point now where it’s got to stop.”

The reluctance for her son to be medicated comes after the former pop star was questioned on live television by Phillip Schofield, 61.

At the time, Kerry was taking medication to manage her bipolar disorder, which she was diagnosed with in 2005.

After being accused of slurring on This Morning, Kerry revealed that her speech was affected by the medication.

“No one believed it was my meds that made me slur, but it was – instead they assume it was the drugs, and that’s the reputation I got,” she stated.

Elsewhere in her column, Kerry said that Max’s condition has put the “family through hell” and that her son’s self-esteem had plummeted due to his inability to concentrate.

Poor focus levels are the main symptom of ADHD diagnosis. Sufferers also experience forgetfulness and being unable to sit still.

As per the Mirror, the former Atomic Kitten singer is apparently letting her son work on a building site for £50 per day.

It’s said he will stay with the family of her fiancé, Ryan Mahoney, 32, in London and will learn the trade three times a week.
