Andrea McLean talks why some Loose Women stars don’t work with others amid Saira Khan jibe

Loose Women: Andrea McLean gets emotional during final show

Andrea McLean, 51, has spoken out on the behind-the-scenes dynamic between the Loose Women cast after she announced her decision to quit the ITV daytime show in November. The presenter’s comments come after Saira Khan, 50, who followed Andrea in leaving the programme earlier this month, revealed she wasn’t planning on staying in touch with all of her former co-hosts following her departure.

After Saira’s apparent swipe, Andrea addressed speculation that there’s a reason behind different panellists working with others on Loose Women.

The This Girl Is on Fire author insisted: “It’s like any working environment.

“If you work with a lot of people, you’re drawn to the one you sit next to. It’s exactly like that.

“There are some women you barely see because you aren’t on a shift with them.

“A lot of people think there’s a reason why different people are working with others, but there’s not,” she clarified.

Andrea also spoke about Charlene White taking her seat on the panel following her exit.

When quizzed on how she feels about the ITV News anchor replacing her, Andrea said: “I’m really pleased!

“She’s wonderful. I remember interviewing Charlene when I was working on the show.

“I came off air and said to the producers that they and said to the producers that they needed to hire her.”

She added in an interview with this week’s OK! Magazine: “There’s so much more to her than people realise.

“She’s smart, funny and a good Loose Women.

“I’m not taking any credit for this – but clearly I should!” Andrea laughed.

It comes after Saira hinted at some tension behind-the-scenes in an interview with Celebrity Skin Talk host Scott McGlynn following her departure from Loose Women.

When quizzed on who she’d remain friends with, the former Apprentice star divulged: “You make friends with some people, you tolerate some people, and some people you just have to do the job with.”

Saira added: “I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty there now.

“There are some friends.. people I will be close to because we get each other.

“And there are some I really don’t miss at all who I was just like, ‘I just have to tolerate you to do the job’.”

The television personality went on to say that clashes of opinions with others on the show led her to be less friendly with them.

Saira went on: “You have to be professional about it. You can’t pretend that everyone is going to be your best friend.

“Especially on a show with different opinions, you’re not going to tolerate everybody’s opinion.

“That’s fine. That’s not a problem, just do it with respect and you have to be open minded.”
