BORIS JOHNSON has confirmed plans to bring in quarantine-free travel from amber list countries for people who are fully vaccinated.
But when is the announcement and what can we expect?
The Prime Minister announced on Monday that face mask requirements and social distancing are set to be dropped on 19 July.
And the quarantine news is a huge boost for the travel industry, with most mainstream destinations currently on the amber list.
“We will maintain our tough border controls including the red list, and recognising the protection afforded by two doses of vaccine,
"We will work with the travel industry towards removing the need for fully vaccinated arrivals to isolate on return from an amber country,” the Prime Minister said.
When is Grant Shapps' update on amber list rules?
Boris Johnson said Transport Secretary Grant Shapps would provide a more detailed update on the plans “later this week”.
Travel announcements have tended to be on Thursdays, but no date has yet been confirmed by the Government.
Previous reports have suggested that quarantine-free travel from amber list countries could be introduced by 26 July, in time for the school holidays.
What is Grant Shapps has expected to say?
he move would essentially allow fully vaccinated people to treat amber list countries as if they were on the green list.
Currently, anyone entering the UK from an amber list country must self-isolate for up to 10 days, regardless of their vaccination status.
They must take a PCR Covid test on day two and day eight, and can then leave quarantine on day 10 if both are negative.
They may take an additional test on day five, and if it is negative they can leave isolation early.
Under these new proposals, anyone who has received their second jab 14 days before entering the UK from an amber list country would be able to skip quarantine requirements.
Hotel quarantine will remain in place for red list countries.
