The widow of a Welsh rugby star who died suddenly after suffering from a heart attack on the pitch has remarried eight years after his sudden death.

Lizzie Jones MBE, 38, was married to Keighley Cougars fly half Danny Jones, when he died, aged 29, in 2015.

Now, eight years on, the award-winning soprano has found love again and tied the knot with fitness coach Nick Whitehall, also 38, in a lavish ceremony in Italy.

The couple have one child together, while Lizzie also has twins from her marriage to Danny.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the mother-of-three wrote: ‘Our special day to remember forever’ followed by a stylish sign that read: ‘Welcome to the Wedding… Lizzie and Nick’ showing gorgeous shots of the venue in Lombardy.

WHAT IS A HEART ATTACK?

Figures suggest there are 200,000 hospital visits because of heart attacks in the UK each year, while there are around 800,000 annually in the US.

A heart attack, known medically as a myocardial infarction, occurs when the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked.

Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, and feeling weak and anxious.

Heart attacks are commonly caused by coronary heart disease, which can be brought on by smoking, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Treatment is usually medication to dissolve blots clots or surgery to remove the blockage.

Reduce your risk by not smoking, exercising regularly and drinking in moderation.

Heart attacks are different to a cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body, usually due to a problem with electrical signals in the organ.

Jones collapsed after being replaced during his club Keighley Cougars’ League One match in north London on 3 May. He died from a cardiac arrest triggered by hereditary heart disease.

The half-back was taken off after only four minutes of the match against London Skolars, at the New River Stadium on White Hart Lane, after apparently complaining of feeling unwell.

He was treated by the match doctor and paramedics at the ground before being taken to the Royal Free Hospital. Where, despite efforts to resuscitate him, he died

Keighley Cougars paid tribute to him in a statement posted on Twitter the day he died, saying the club’s thoughts were with his widow Liz and their young children.

The club said: ‘Danny was much loved and highly respected by all at the club and in rugby league.

‘He was the life and soul in the dressing room, a natural leader, a true professional and irreplaceable.

‘He achieved over 1,000 points and 150 appearances for Keighley Cougars and he will be sorely missed. We are devastated.

‘He sadly passed away today at the age of 29 leaving his five-month-old twins, wife and family. Our hearts go out to Liz, his children and his family.’
