Another day, another skincare trend. The "moisture sandwich" is one of the latest to do the rounds on TikTok and it’s definitely worth a go – especially if you struggle with uncomfortable dehydrated or dry skin.

Videos demonstrating the buzz-worthy trend have racked up thousands of views and likes on the platform. So what is a moisture sandwich, and how exactly does it work? Let’s get into it.

What is a moisture sandwich?

Its name kind of gives the game away, but a moisture sandwich is all about layering up your skincare products to lock in hydration. It’s similar to its cousin, the "skincare sandwich" layering technique, except the focus here is entirely on moisture.

The golden rule is to apply your products to damp skin to help draw moisture in, so says skincare influencer Charlotte Parlermino. Inher TikTok, she describes the three-step process as "dampen skin, moisturiser, then a balm," which she says works for dry skin, but if you are prone to acne just skip the balm.

Although she is seen creating a moisture sandwich on her lips, she has noted in this and other videos that the process also can be applied to your face to lock in moisture.

“It’s extremely important to dampen your skin before you put on your skincare,” she explains in the clip, adding in the comments section that if you live in an area with hard water, you should switch out the tap for a face mist.

“I’m focusing on my lips because they’re super chapped and I’m just throwing on a thick layer of moisturizer,” she continues. “This is a moisture sandwich.”

“See how my moisturizer sunk in? Now you can go in with your Vaseline. It’s insane how dry your lips can get,” she added.

As you can see above, the clip ends with Charlotte showing off a seriously enviable glow to her skin. So, how do I copy and paste this onto my own face, we hear you ask? For your sandwiching pleasure, we’ve rounded up a few products that can help you on your way to 10/10 skin moisture levels.
