LOYAL Sky customers can cash-in on rewards and upgrades for their time dedicated to the company.
Sky VIP launched in 2017 and it rewards Sky customers who have had a membership for several continuous years.
On offer are free tickets to sporting events such as the Premier League and preview screenings of the latest movies.
You can also get your broadband set-up for free if you've been with the loyalty scheme for long enough.
We explain everything you need to know about the perks and what you have to do to claim them.
What is Sky VIP?
Being a Sky customer for a long time means you can cash-in on the rewards on offer.
You can sign up for Sky VIP as soon as you set up a Sky package – you can activate the rewards scheme within your free My Sky app and it's automatically updated to reflect your account and payments.
It's similar to O2's Priority rewards which also offers customers tickets to live entertainment, sporting events and even free food too.
It works in tiers, and the longer you stay with Sky the further you can move up the rankings.
They start from Silver which is for customers who have been with Sky up to three years, then Gold for members up to eight years, followed by Platinum for users who stay with Sky up to 15 years.
The highest tier is Diamond which rewards customers who have been with Sky for over 15 years.
Sky will automatically move you into the higher tier when you qualify so you don't have to do anything except stay loyal to move up the rankings.
All your new rewards will be updated in the My Sky app too.
But if you leave Sky at any point and rejoin, your Sky VIP rewards membership will reset to the lowest tier.
You'll start from Silver again and have to work your way up again to claim the higher rewards.
Am I eligible for a membership?
To be eligible for Sky VIP you either have to already have, Sky TV, Sky Broadband, Sky Talk or Sky Mobile.
The rewards program is free so long as you already have one of these Sky accounts set up.
Only one person can redeem the rewards though, which could be a blow to those who share accounts – usually the rewards will be offered to the primary account holder.
Some of the rewards you can claim only work for Sky TV customers though, so it's worth checking out which package you're on to see if the benefits are worth it.
It's also worth noting that if you fail to pay for your regular Sky package then you could see your rewards cut off.
Plus, if your account goes into debt after joining, it will be restricted and you won’t be able to redeem any rewards until the debt is cleared.
What rewards are on offer?
As soon as you set up Sky VIP alongside your Sky account you will recieve a free gift for joining.
This is usually a free movie from the Sky movie store that would normally cost around £14 to buy for new releases.
The tiers that follow your account set up work accumulatively too, so anything you earn in the lower stages will still be redeemable if you've got access to the higher ones too.
Sky VIP Silver
You're eligible for Sky VIP Silver as soon as you set up your account, and you'll stay on this level for the first three years you're with Sky.
As well as the welcome gift you can also cash in on experiences including free prize draws, and free VIP tickets to nationwide events like sports fixtures, cinema screenings and movie previews.
Make sure you check back on the app often to see what is newly redeemable.
You should also get alerts from Sky when there's something new you can claim, like when a new movie is released.
Sky VIP Gold
Stay with Sky for more than three years and you can move up to Sky VIP Gold.
Gold members get access to Sky Go Extra for free, which lets you download shows and watch them wherever you want on your devices.
Normally that feature would cost an extra £5 a month so you won't have to pay extra with the loyalty scheme.
Sky VIP Platinum
Once you've hit the eight year mark you can claim free Sky Fibre broadband which would usually cost from £28 a month to get set-up.
You can also get a free data boost to your Sky Piggy Bank which is the depository for all your unused mobile data if you're with Sky Mobile.
Sky VIP Diamond
Customers who stay with Sky for over 15 years can access the top package.
You will get a free Sky Q set-up as your reward, which would normally cost an additional £25 per month.
The premium entertainment product offers a range of hardware set-top boxes and premium pay TV options.
How do I claim rewards?
You need the free My Sky app to claim the rewards which is available on the Apple app store and Google Play store.
But you can also find your rewards online by selecting “My Account” in your Sky profile and then selecting “Rewards and Extras”.
You'll be able to view everything that you have been gifted and download any voucher codes or links to freebies that are waiting for you.
Sky TV customers can also join the loyalty scheme from the “My Account” area of their Sky set-top box.
If you're only a Sky Mobile customer you'll need to contact Sky via online chat or by calling 0333 759 2105 to set up your rewards.
It's worth noting that the reward scheme could only be beneficial if you've been with Sky for a while.
You should always have a shop around to see if there are better deals out there every time it comes to renewing your broadband or telly contract.
If switching to another company means you can save more money on your monthly bills, this might outweigh the long wait it will take to build up to some of Sky's rewards.
