This week on the Real Footy podcast, Peter Ryan, Jake Niall and Sam McClure discuss Collingwood’s victory over Adelaide and their trend of snatching come-from-behind wins.
Should the fact that they often trail teams be a cause for concern? Or is their ladder position a sign that there’s nothing for supporters to worry about? The stats might show that Collingwood are winning without playing well, but they are without a couple of key players, including Jordan De Goey and Steele Sidebottom. And they do have a forward line problem.
But there are plenty of things for Pies supporters to enjoy – Nick Daicos, who showed against the Crows that he can play on the inside – and the brand of footy they play that makes them so hard to score against.
We also discuss “Fly footy”, pressure ratings and whether the “must-watch” Pies are winning over opposition fans … or if there will always be something to hate about the black and white.
There are positives for the Crows, despite not coming away with the four points. Their ability to move the ball from defence is good, and their third quarter against Collingwood on a big stage was impressive. They showed they could compete with one of the competition’s best teams away from Adelaide Oval.
There are not so many positive signs at West Coast, who have been declining since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Who holds the power at the Eagles? How much of an excuse do their injuries provide? What is the most important step the club needs to take now?
Plus, the upside for Melbourne despite their top-four placing, why match-day reports are important, the Saints’ intercept marking problem and who is more important to Essendon – Darcy Parish or Mason Redman?
