Ricky Gervais may not be attending this year’s Oscars ceremony, but the Golden Globes 2020 host was keen to take the mick out of the awards from afar.
The comedian roasted the Academy as he took to the podium to host last year’s Golden Globes and it seems that may have ruined his chances of gracing the red carpet at tonight’s event.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, the After Life star mused, alongside a laughing emoji: ‘It’s The Oscars tonight! I wasn’t invited.
‘Was it something I said?’
If you cast your mind to last year (we know, it feels like a lifetime ago already), Ricky mentioned the host-less Oscars, after Kevin Hart stepped down as host in 2019 after old, offensive tweets emerged.
‘Kevin Hart was fired from the Oscars because of some offensive tweets,’ he said, before pointing to himself and adding: ‘Er, hello?’
Again, the Oscars this year will remain hostless – as it has since 2019. Instead, there will be a super-glitzy array of A-list presenters including Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon and Harrison Ford.
As the stars begin to arrive on the red carpet for this year’s instalment, keep up to date with all the happenings via our Live Blog.
Oscars 2021 will air in the UK from 1am on SkyCinema and NowTV.
