An English electrician has revealed how putting on a fake Northern Irish accent is the only way to get his disobedient dog to listen to his commands.

Jay Shore, 35, and Megan King, 33, brought their new Rottweiler pup Paddy over to Merseyside from Northern Ireland in December last year.

The six-month-old dog had spent the first few months of his life in Megan’s home town, Armagh, where he was being looked after by her parents.

Jay was left scratching his head as to why Paddy would only obey Megan and refused to follow his commands.

The electrician finally realised last week that Paddy could only understand when he spoke in a Northern Irish accent – as he had been taught basic commands by Megan’s parents.

Electrician Jay Shore, from Merseyside, has to speak to his pup, Paddy, in a fake Northern Irish accent

Earlier this week, the couple uploaded a video on TikTok of Jay trying to get Paddy to sit using his normal voice.

But unable to understand what he was being asked, the baffled pup only clocked the command when Jay did his best impression of Megan’s dad.

Jay then says ‘give me your paw’ and the pup just stares blankly at him. But when he repeated the command in the accent, Paddy happily handed over his paw.

Megan captioned the clip: ‘When your pup only responds to a brogue Northern Irish accent but your partner is English…’

The clip has amassed over 687,000 ‘likes’ in the past two days – and viewers found the exchange adorable.

One wrote: ‘He only speaks Northern Irish!’

Another added: ‘This is unreal hahahha I’ve watched it like six times.’

‘This has made my morning,’ a third gushed.

Megan said: ‘My parents bought him for me because my dog passed away last year.

‘We were waiting for his vaccines to kick in before we brought him over so he was brought up in a Northern Irish house with the accent.

‘They taught him all of the basic commands. Jay obviously doesn’t have the accent which Paddy responds to.

‘He wasn’t listening to Jay and we couldn’t work it out. He was very confused. I understood his confusion.

‘He wasn’t responding and Jay suddenly wondered if it was because he was used to an Northern Irish accent.

In the video, Jay can heard asking Paddy to sit down in an English accent, to which he ignored his command. He then repeated what he said in the Irish accent and Paddy obeyed him

‘It was hilarious when we realised, we both nearly wet ourselves laughing.

‘He struggles with all the commands until its done in a Northern Irish accent. He won’t come in from the garden unless Jay says ‘come in now’ in the accent.’

Lab technician Megan says that Jay has learned how to put on the accent during their six-year relationship.

Megan moved to England in 2012 but says her accent isn’t going anywhere so the pair are trying to teach Paddy to follow hand commands to avoid any more confusion.

Megan said: ‘Hopefully he’ll get used to Jay’s accent and now we’ve realised what the issue is we can work on it.’
