I was horrified after a man ordered a glass of milk on our first date

Woman left horrified as ‘attractive’ date orders glass of milk in a restaurant – and people can’t agree if she’s right to be ‘put off’

  • The Mumsnet user said her date’s drink of choice was ‘really odd’ and a ‘turn off’
  • She admitted she found the man ‘attractive’ until he ordered milk to the table
  • Her opinion caused a stir on Mumsnet- with some saying she was overreacting

A woman was filled with horror when an ‘attractive’ man on a first date ordered a glass of milk when the two went out for dinner.

The UK Mumsnet user said her date’s drink of choice was ‘really odd’ and described it as a massive ‘turn off’.

On the internet forum, she wrote: ‘[I went] on a first date with a guy I met online last night, went out for dinner.

‘When I got there I definitely found him attractive. However when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.

She claimed the man’s drink threw her off and found it a massive ‘turn off’.

The woman added: ‘I’ve honestly never came across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it’s really odd and really put me off him.

‘I have tried to work out why this was such a turn off and I can’t come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.

She asked Mumsnet whether she was being unreasonable and her situation has divided opinion.

The Mumsnet user said her date’s drink of choice was ‘really odd’ and found his go-to drink a massive ‘turn off’

One commenter said it depended on the situation and what type of meal the two were having.

They said: ‘Maybe with curry it isn’t that odd, equally burger and milkshake is acceptable so milk isn’t a massive step if he doesn’t like the texture of a thick milkshake. Fancy restaurant having steak or pasta then milk is a bit weird!’ another person wrote.

Another wrote: ‘It is a bit strange. Not really what you’d have as first choice with an adult meal!

‘More like something you’d give a child to have with an apple. Watch out for him being a secret adult nappy wearer.’

The post sparked debate on Mumsnet – but many agreed that they would also find it ‘weird’

Another user said they would definitely have been put off but they couldn’t decide why.

They added: ‘I think it’s such an unusual thing to order I’d assume fussy eater or might have other weird habits. It’s sort of gross and babyish isn’t it.’

In defence of the man, someone else added: ‘Maybe he just prefers milk.

‘I do too when at home, never ordered it with a meal so get why you might think it’s odd but not the worst thing someone could do.  It’s only milk, he didn’t order a pint of blood.’
