Hospital error means mother's child is called 'Korn' not 'Kora'

Mother reveals her newborn daughter who was meant to be called Kora has been legally named after the metal band Korn due to a hospital error on her birth certificate

  • Kelsey Tate, from Seattle, was stunned after her baby was called Korn in error
  • Kelsey said she meant to name her baby, who was born on April 10, 2021, Kora
  • She said the hospital checked forms with her but she was ‘down a lot of blood’
  • Twitter users quipped she should keep the name in tribute to the American band
  • The mother later confirmed she had mailed off a corrections form for the name

A mother spent ages picking out the perfect name for her child, only for a hospital error to result in her baby being named something else entirely.

Kelsey Tate, from Seattle, Washington, was left completely shocked after a hospital error meant her child was legally named Korn – the same as the nu-metal band – by accident.

Kelsey insisted that she had instead meant to name her baby, who was born on April 10 this year, Kora, and not after the US hitmakers, whose songs include Love & Meth, Freak on a Leash and Black Is The Soul.

Taking to Twitter to share the mishap (above), Kelsey posted a picture of the incorrect form and said she had meant to name her baby, who was born on April 10 this year, Kora

Taking to Twitter to share the mishap, she explained: ‘The hospital messed up my baby’s name and we just got the birth certificate and it’s Korn. My baby’s name is legally Korn.’

The 3D illustrator later added that there was a chance that the hospital checked with her first, but she claimed she was ‘down a lot of blood’ at the time after giving birth.

She penned: ‘1. The name is supposed to be Kora

‘2. Yes this should be able to be easily fixed if we are fast!

‘3. There is a chance they may have had me double check this, but to be fair I was down a lot of blood at the time’

Kelsey (above) said the name was correct on the whiteboard, but she noticed an error with the surname on the first form, so believes the mishap occurred when the second form was written

The hysterical blunder led to hoards of Twitter users urging the new mother to keep the name Korn in tribute to the American nu-metal band (pictured)

Kelsey said the name was correct on the hospital whiteboard, but she noticed an error with the surname on the first form, so believes the mishap might have occurred when the second form was written up.

The hysterical blunder prompted floods of other Twitter users to share their own stories of their names being recorded incorrectly, or their parents making errors.

One person wrote: ‘My parents called me Peter forgetting my elder brother is called Peter.’

Another commented: ‘I was born in the month of “Mary”, and no one noticed until I turned 25 and I had to get some paperwork filed that involved that birth certificate.’

A third tweeted: ‘The nurse when I was born messed me name up and we didn’t realize it until I was 18 and couldn’t get my license cause my social and birth certificate weren’t the same.

‘Took 6 months to fix since we moved states when I was a baby. My mom called every day to get it fixed.’

While a fourth penned: ‘This is so absurd but now you have a great story to embarrass her with for the rest of her life.’

Floods of other Twitter users also hilariously shared their own stories of their names being recorded incorrectly, or their parents making errors while naming them

And a fifth quipped: ‘First name Kora middle name Korn. It’s the only solution now’

Another said: ‘My name should be spelled: NaniShanay.

‘Hospital messed up – back then it took forever to get documents, my parents didn’t review them, they didn’t realize until I was 3 and they enrolled me in preschool.

‘They spelled it correctly on everything & the school corrected them.’

Floods of social media users compared the name to the vegetable baby corn, while others couldn’t help but share pictures of the nu-metal band in response.

Kelsey later confirmed: ‘Kora/Korn does not know she was the main character this weekend.

‘We just mailed the corrections form, which unfortunately was the back of the Korn certificate so we can’t put it in the baby book but we’ll put a scanned version in.’
