Gluten-free food firm forced to recall Porridge Flakes because they may contain MOTHS

A TRENDY food firm has been forced to recall a batch of organic porridge flakes – because they could contain MOTHS.

Barkat, who manufacture gluten-free snacks from leafy Elstree, Herts, have warned that moth grubs could even be lurking in packs on store shelves.

They issued the alert through the Food Standards Agency, warning that any 500g boxes of the flakes, with a "best before" date of October 6th 2018, were recalled "because the product may contain moths and moth larvae".

The company said: "If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to where it was bought for a full refund.

The FSA said "Gluten Free Foods Ltd is recalling the product and have written to their affected customers providing a Product Recall Notice to advise of this issue, as well as publishing the details of the recall on their website.

"These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
