Geraniums can easily overgrow and make your garden look messy, according to Adam Frost. Therefore, the gardener has encouraged Britons to cut back on the plant now – ahead of the summer.
Adam Frost has shared his top tips on maintaining your garden and which tasks to start doing now.
In a video clip posted to Gardeners’ World’s Twitter page this week, the presenter explained how to cut back geraniums in your garden.
He said: “Hardy geraniums can look a little bit untidy after they’ve finished flowering like this one that’s flopped over the path.
“But if you chop them hard back right down to the ground, they’ll put on a new flush of growth in a matter of weeks.”
Adam put the cut geraniums in a bucket to get rid of them, making his garden a lot tidier and more spacious.
The gardener recommended doing this task now, ahead of summer.
Another task he advised doing was sowing kale.
The healthy vegetable’s seeds can be planted in the ground in early July to be ready to eat by winter.

Adam said: “It’s not too late to get some kale going for winter.
“I like to start mine off in a tray of compost which I water beforehand.
“Sprinkle the seed over the top and lightly cover with a fine layer of compost.
“Germination will only take a few days and there’s no need to provide any heat.”
The last task Adam recommended doing this week was trim lawn edges.
Similar to geraniums, these can overgrow and make your garden look messy.
Adam trimmed the grass in his garden with a pair of garden shears.
The garden designer said: “To spruce up your garden and help prevent grass from evading your borders, it’s worth giving the lawn edges a regular trim.”
He continued: “I use a pair of long-handed shears for the job.
“But garden shears would work just as well.”
Fans of Gardeners’ World were happy to watch Adam at work in his garden.
One commented on the video: “Excellent show. Frost is just so good.”
Another person wrote: “I could listen to Monty and Adam all day.”
