Mulled wine with a ‘twist’ – the perfect festive recipe

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a glass of mulled wine by the fire. As we approach the festive season, Britons will be heading to the supermarket to buy this wintery drinks, however it’s much more fun to make it at home.

Mulled wine is super flavoursome but surprisingly easy to make – it also takes no time at all, ready in four quick steps.

This easy-peasy recipe is not too heavy on ingredients so it will not break the bank this Christmas.

It will, however, impress your festive guests. Make this on Christmas Eve as well as the big day itself, then New Year’s Eve. Perfect for parties as well as cuddling up on the sofa.

Ingredients

  • One bottle of white wine
  • 30ml (1oz) seven-year-old rum
  • 30ml (1oz) Grand Marnier
  • 90ml (3oz) apple juice
  • Six cloves
  • Two cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 of a nutmeg, grated
  • One orange, sliced
  • One lemon, sliced

Method

  1. Add the ingredients to a saucepan.
  2. Heat gently until just simmering. Make sure it doesn’t boil.
  3. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Serve in seasonal glasses or mugs whilst watching a Christmas movie – optional but encouraged. Enjoy!
