M&S’s boozy Easter egg has flown off the shelves and is now sold out online. The Gin & Ton-Egg, costing £5, is a gin flavoured milk chocolate egg with pink gin flavoured chocolate buttons inside. Marks’ recommends “Shaking it up so it sounds like ice cubes.” Despite the high demand, shoppers are undecided whether the gin and chocolate combination sounds delicious or just plain strange. One woman said: “It’s a no from me…I don’t like chocolate! I drink gin but can’t stand tonic!”

Another replied: “I had some gin and tonic truffles for Christmas, they were disgusting.” And a third said: “No, I like mine in a glass with ice thank you.”

On the other side of the debate, one woman said: “Take my money now!” And another commented: “Hands up! I will try it! My preference is dark chocolate, but hey, I’m a chocoholic so I can be pretty easily persuaded.”

A third said: “Gin and chocolate? How can that combination not be perfect?

“I was a little dubious when our butcher began making locally distilled gin and pork sausages, but of course, they are delicious too.”

Boozy flavoured Easter eggs are all the rage this year. The Guinness Chocolate egg contains a milk chocolate egg accompanied by miniature dark chocolate pints of Guinness filled with a creamy, Guiness-flavoured ganache.

Waitrose have also launched a Champagne Truffle egg which includes a milk chocolate egg with four milk and dark chocolate champagne truffles.

The Baileys Salted Caramel Easter Egg comes with four gold shimmered truffles filled with Baileys-salted caramel ganache.

The offer includes Cadbury Dairy Milk Easter Egg, Cadbury Mini Egg Easter Egg, Aero Bubble Peppermint Chocolate Giant Egg as well as the Cadbury Creme Egg Giant Easter Egg.
