Whether it’s classic vanilla, mint choc chip or refreshing strawberry, no summer is complete without lashings of ice cream.
So, if you’re in need of a sweet pick-me-up, an upcoming event should be on your radar.
Covent Garden’s annual ice cream festival is returning at the end of the month, celebrating sundaes, sorbets, frozen cocktails, gelato and more.
Now in its third year, The Covent Garden Cool Down ice cream festival will be popping up for ten days, from August 20-30, offering 40 different varieties of the sweet treat.
Crosstown will be in the Piazza, serving ice cream sundaes with freshly baked cookies and biscotti, while Barafat Café will be dishing out strawberry and lime, mango and passion fruit and pistachio ice cream macarons.
Elsewhere, Bears Ice Cream will be serving up some interesting flavours including basil, honeycomb and blueberry lavender – plus a selection of vegan options such as sour cherry, hibiscus sorbet and coconut faux creme.
A Kelly’s Ice Cream van will be scooping out pistachio, salted treacle and strawberries and cream flavours, as well as an exclusive damson and sloe gin variety.
For a boozy option, The Little Orange Van on the Piazza will be serving up frozen Aperol Spritz cocktails and Spritz lollies.
If that wasn’t enough, Govida and Hotel Chocolat are set to have their own frozen treats in the market building, while Amorino and James Street Collective will also be on-hand in the surrounding areas – with soft serves and gelato.
But it’s not just food, there will even be a stall selling ice cream-themed Happy Socks.
So there’s plenty to stick your teeth into (although, watch out for brain freeze).
The event is also a great option for the August bank holiday weekend – especially if the UK heatwave returns for the second half of the month.
