We've got 21 kids and our house is hectic – here's how we keep it running smoothly and manage our huge food shops | The Sun

IF the thought of having more than just a few kids makes your head spin, spare a thought for this busy couple who have 21.

Shelly and Jared Wallace, from Arizona, in the US have dedicated their lives to raising kids, and detail their hectic family life online under the name Crazy Middles.

After meeting and marrying some 15 years ago, the couple, who make their money through rental houses, decided to foster and adopt 18 kids, adding to their biological two.

But rather than welcoming one here and there, they vowed they take in groups of siblings which saw the family grow drastically in size.

"We made it our personal mission to adopt siblings and put them back together," Shelly revealed in a video on YouTube. "It's been such a blessing in our lives."

The Wallace family live in a ginormous eight-bedroom house and currently have ten children aged between 7 and 17 still living at home.

The older kids have since moved out, some with their own families, but they are never too far away from their parents' home.

Each room is kitted out with a giant TV, and the older kids have their own computer set up with a gaming console too.

To help things run smoothly around the home, the family have two giant washing machines and two driers to help with the heavy load.

But if you thought that was a lot, there are also four giant fridges that are stocked full of food and a giant walk-in pantry too.

Dinner time can be a struggle as one table is never enough and the family struggle to fit everyone around it.

So they have a second dining room withing another huge table, and with the two, the family can fit comfortably.

Shared responsibilities

The kids are each responsible for doing their own washing which takes the pressure off mum and dad.

Plus the kids all help with dinner too and they make it really fun.

Mum Shelley revealed they once had a chef that shopped for the family and cooked all their meals.

But now, each family member has a go at cooking for the family.

In one video, the family were preparing for a weekend away, and at 9pm the night before things were still pretty hectic.

Each child was responsible for packing their own pack, so mum wasn't stuck doing it all.

Despite this, it was still chaotic and it took a lot of time.

Food shopping

Keeping the pantry fully stocked at all times requires a lot of work, and loads of money too.

Each supermarket trip takes at least five or six trolleys, and the same amount of kids to match.

The family previously revealed they go through a whopping 60 rolls of toilet paper in one week.

And one weekly shop can cost as much as $1,334.94 (£988.46.)

Each pasta dish will use at least four pounds (1800gm) of pasta, while the family go through at least seven litres of milk a day.

Occasionally, the parents will stock up on bulk items at Costco and what they spend there will put you off kids for good.

While some items last for months in the pantry, others don't see the week.

On one trip, Shelley and Jared admitted they did two trips and filled at least six giant trolleys full of grocery items.

The first load full of dry goods cost them £664 ($796.45), while refrigerated and freezer items cost another £1045 ($1253).
