These are the four best sex positions you need to try if you want to get pregnant

WHETHER or not certain sex positions can help you get pregnant quicker is up for debate.

Many obstetricians are sceptical, and the research hasn’t been done to prove it either way.

“Any of the positions, obviously, you can get pregnant in,” says Rebecca Dakin, AKA The Great British Sexpert.

However, the author, hypnotherapist and coach does recommend four moves that may help tip the odds in your favour.

They could increase your chances of conceiving – and they’re guaranteed to spice up your sex schedule.

Missionary

Rebecca says: “Any position where you can get really deep penetration is good.

“I know it’s really cliché, but missionary is really good for it!”

This position allows the penis to reach the area right at the front of the cervix, the canal that connects the vagina and the womb.

The sexpert advises resting your legs on your partner’s shoulders or raising your hips for an added gravitational boost to help his swimmers on their way.

Rebecca also believes that positions that foster intimacy with your partner will help reduce any stress surrounding pregnancy, which has been linked to reduced fertility.

She says: “It’s very intimate because you are face-to-face so you can really focus on the connection with your partner.”

The wheelbarrow

“The wheelbarrow is a good one if people are feeling like they want to be a bit more energetic!” says Rebecca.

This position, which involves getting down on all fours as your partner holds your legs up and enters you from behind, provides deep penetration and gives the semen great access to the cervix.

Don’t let trying to conceive ruin your sex life

Rebecca says that when she works with clients around fertility, it’s often because, on their mission to get pregnant, they’ve taken the fun out of baby-making.

She explains: “The body doesn’t cope very well when you’re stressed.

“When your focus is on, ‘got to make this baby, got to make this baby,’ it’s a lot of pressure for him and it’s a lot of pressure for her.

“Keep it fun, keep that connection, be spontaneous if you can and be playful.”

If you’re finding your sex has gotten serious, Rebecca advises that it might be a good time to get experimental.

She says: “Try a bit of kink, mix it up, talk about things you might like to try and do, so it becomes more about not just going through the motions, but actually getting some good pleasure and exploring new sexual kinks.”

Doggy style

To give sperm their best shot, Rebecca recommends getting down and doggy due to the deep penetration it offers.

As with missionary, this move positions the head of the penis right at the opening of the cervix.

“Doggy is a good one but you have to be careful that [the sperm is] not going to come straight out,” says Rebecca.

“If you’re going to be in a position where gravity will take its toll, do those positions by all means, but focus afterwards on rolling back to keep your hips up in the air so you kind of make yourself a little cup to keep the liquid in.”

The butterfly

The butterfly position, where you lie back on the edge of the bed or another surface with your partner standing or kneeling between your legs, ticks all the boxes.

It enables deeper penetration, keeps gravity on side and is face-to-face which encourages a sense of closeness.

Rebecca says: “Having that intimate connection is really helpful when you’re trying to procreate.”
