Meghan Markle, 42, was spotted wearing a camel coat while out and about earlier this month, suggesting she isn’t quite ready to give up her autumnal outfit despite California’s reputation for sunny weather.
Although her Max Mara Goloso Cashmere Coat, which costs £4,000, might not be appropriate for Santa Barbara’s warmer climate, it did serve as a huge source of autumnal inspiration as Britons get ready to enter the UK’s noticeably colder season.
The Duchess of Sussex’s overcoat is ideal for transitional dressing and is a guaranteed wardrobe staple that will last fans through nearly every season thanks to its timeless belted style, camel colour, and big lapels.
Its description reads: “This classic wrap-style Goloso coat from Italian fashion house Max Mara is so effortless that you’ll be tempted to wear it at every opportunity.
“Epitomising elegance and timeless sophistication, this wrap-over design is expertly crafted from cosy cashmere and is topped with notched lapels, roomy slip pockets and a waist-defining belt.

“Hand-stitched finishes on closer inspection reveal the fashion label’s eye for detail.”
But because spending £4,000 on a coat isn’t feasible for most fans, there is a nearly identical alternative that’s significantly less expensive.
Fans can practically achieve the same appearance as Meghan’s for a lot less money if they visit New Look and purchase the Camel Longline Belted Coat for £54.99.
Similar to the Duchess of Sussex’s coat, the New Look version is available in a classic camel shade and includes a tie belt at the waist that can be adjusted and removed to define your silhouette.

Its description says: “Belted for a form-flattering finish, this camel coat is cut to a relaxed, longline silhouette that’s perfect for adding both warmth and style to your looks.”
One of the most adaptable pieces fans can have in their collection, the coat’s loose shape prevents it from looking too formal and it’s excellent for pairing with jeans and a T-shirt or a midi dress and heels.
Sizes six to 22 are offered in the three colours camel, black, and khaki for the Longline Belted Coat. However, a few sizes in each colour are now displaying as low in stock.
Shoppers who have already bought the item called it “super fitting”, with one saying: “Great coat – hangs really nicely. It’s not lined but seems well made.”
However, one review said: “The coat is unlined and feels rather cheap. Not suitable for a mature person like me.”
If the absence of a lining is a deal-breaker, the £75 ASOS sophisticated brushed boyfriend wool blend coat in mushroom also gives a similar look and style.
The Michael Kors Double Face Wool Blend Coat for £470 is composed of a double face wool blend and has identical notched lapels and a belted waist to Meghan’s coat for those prepared to invest quite a bit of money.
Whichever knockoff fans select, they are sure to be donning the coat with royal inspiration in the upcoming autumn and winter seasons.
