How much is the Dyson Airwrap tool, how does it work and is it worth the money?

DYSON is known for designing cutting-edge hoovers but it’s recently added to its hair care range with a new multi-use product.

The Dyson Airwrap claims to dry, smooth, straighten and curl hair simply by using different attachments, and the ‘Coanda effect’.

How does it work?

The Airwrap is described by Dyson as: “A styling tool engineered to create curls, waves and smooth blow dries without extreme heat.”

It aims to be a versatile tool which styles hair without damaging it by excessive heat.

There are three different kits, the Complete, the Smooth + Control and the Volume + Shape.

The Complete is for multiple hair types, the Smooth + Control is for ‘unruly, frizz-prone hair’, and the Volume + Shape is for ‘limp, flat hair’.

The wand uses jets of air to achieve the finished look, using Dyson’s digital motor to creat what they’ve called the Coanda effect.

Dyson said: “The Coanda effect occurs when a high-speed jet of air flows across a surface and, due to differences in pressure, the air flow attaches itself to the surface.

“This attracts, wraps and curls the air around the barrel.

“Taking advantage of this principle Dyson’s team of aerodynamicists created a way to style hair using only air combined with heat.

“The result, whether you choose to curl, wave, smooth or rough dry your hair, creates a natural look with a sleek finish, helping prevent extreme heat damage.”

The Airwand, which can also style hair from wet to dry, has been in development for the past six years with £24million invested into research and development.

There were 642 prototypes, and 230 engineers worked on the product.

James Dyson, founder and chairman, said: “Harnessing the power of Dyson’s digital motor we have engineered a unique styling tool which prevents extreme heat damage when styling.”

Is it worth the money?

The Airdryer has been receiving rave reviews online.

Jenny Fancis, from The Sun, tested it out against tradition styling methods, such as straighteners.

Her overall verdict was: “As much as I don’t want to admit it of a product with a £450 price tag, I think it’s an absolute wonder-tool.”

Shoppers have also been leaving positive reviews online, with one person saying: “Just a fantastic piece of kit.

How many attachments are there?

  • Pre-styling dryer
  • Soft smoothing brush
  • 40mm AirwrapTM barrel
  • 30mm AirwrapTM barrel
  • Firm smoothing brush
  • Round volumizing brush

“Super easy to use and gave my hair the most gorgeous bouncy shiny waves.

“Bit pricy but it’s a dryer, tongs and straightener in one I guess.”

Another person said: “This is really clever, and I’m sure it will be great for people who do a lot of styling, especially those with long hair.”
