A THRIFTY woman has revealed how she built her very own outdoor bar for £200 using B&M and eBay bargains.
Louise Morrison, 49, and her husband wanted a cosy garden area so they could entertain their friends, but were quoted over £2,000 for the job.
Refusing to spend the eye-watering amount, they decided they could do it themselves – and the results are incredible.
Speaking exclusively to money-saving marketplace LovetheSales.com, Louise revealed how she got the job using pallets and bargain buys, including items she bagged for free.
Louise said: "For the seating area we got 20 pallets free from my hubby's work. With the remaining two pallets we created the base for the bar."
"We constructed the top of the bar, the roof and the bar cladding from materials bought from B&Q's online spring sale. That came to a total of £80."
The crafty couple made use of some freebies they bagged from friends too, using the cushion from a memory foam mattress as bench seating.
"We cut the foam to size and covered it with door curtain panelling we got for £20 in the B&M clearance sale, "Louise said, and revealed that the scatter cushions were spares they had laying around.
While shopping at B&M, the couple picked up some paint for £11, choosing the shade willow green' by Cuprinol for the bar and seat frames.
Louise added: "The decking had been in place for over ten years, we gave it new life by painting it with Spear and Jackson 'slate grey' decking paint for £18, also from B&M. The outdoor rug was £20 and came from Kukoon rugs online.
"I made the lanterns from empty gin bottles and added solar fairy lights from B&M for £5.
"The wooden drum cable reel we sourced free from a building yard. All we had to do was varnish with an outdoor varnish we already had.
"We transformed the top of the drum into a table top using beer bottle caps collected from a local pub. My husband held in the caps place with tile adhesive (£40) and epoxy resin (£20), both were from eBay."
Offering some advise for novice DIY-ers, Louise said to search social media for cheap of free items.
"This is how we acquired the mattresses, wooden cable reel and the bottle tops," she explained.
And added: "I also always keep an eye on end of season sales or end of line products and B&M is a great place to source low price materials."
The budget task sure paid off for Louise and her husband who are both very pleased with the end result.
Although, it took "a lot of hard work", according to Louise, and "a bit of shouting along the way", but that's a small price to pay for a £1800 savings.
"We are so proud of how it has all come together. We are by no means expert builders, but I would say to anyone don't be afraid to give it a go, she said.
"We are planning to have the grand opening with our closest friends over the Mayday bank holiday, as we are hoping for a bit warmer weather than we've had in April."
