Zenith Races to Eco-Friendly Future With Carbon Fiber DEFY Extreme

Zenith launches its DEFY Extreme timepiece after announcing its partnership with the off-road electric racing championship series EXTREME E, of which Zenith is the Official Timekeeper.

The DEFY Extreme is a lightweight timepiece equipped with three interchangeable rubber straps inspired by the EXTREME E’s “X Prix” vehicle lineup. The quick-strap mechanism seamlessly transitions from three colorways in black onyx, stone grey, and vermillion.

The timepiece abandons an all-metal body in lieu of a monolithic carbon fiber case, pusher, and crown. The twelve-sided bezel and push protectors are made from micro-blasted titanium, and the 1/100th of a second chronograph is accented by yellow markers. The dial chronograph is made of crystal sapphire and features blue, green, and white counters. An angular face adds a sense of sculptural ingenuity and nods to the geometric splendor of rocky terrains and windswept dunes explored in the electrified motorsport series.

EXTREME E’s second season kicks off with the DESERT X Pri in Saudi Arabia in February, for which Zenith will develop three special edition timepieces for each race. The radical racing series highlights remote environments facing climate change issues through the promotion of electrified automobiles and has committed to a net-zero carbon footprint throughout its inaugural run.

The new timepiece is available at Zenith’s home website, listed at $25,100 USD.

In other watch news, CITIZEN releases two solar-powered timepieces, inspired by Nissan’s Z-car series.
