For its latest project, Vans teams up with the estate and Hi, How Are You foundation of the late musician and visual artist Daniel Johnston. “Hi, How Are you,” which is printed across several items, is a foundation that was formed in Johnston’s memory seeking to promote mental well-being and a culture of inclusion through thoughtful media content, projects, and events. Seeking to support and inspire new conversations around mental health, the upcoming capsule includes a range of apparel and reworked retro footwear that features Johnston’s distinct illustrations.
Footwear silhouettes, including the Vans Skate Authentic, Slip-On, and Sk8-Hi, are dressed in detailed artworks taken from the Johnston’s “Respect” and “Don’t Be Scared” lo-fi albums. While Slip-Ons and Sk8-His are featured in graphics-filled checkerboard prints, the Skate Authentics incorporate a black canvas base with illustrations extending from the midsoles to the uppers. A range of collaborative apparel including hoodies, shirts, long-sleeve tees, chino pants, totes, hats and socks arrive in similar checkerboard prints and playful illustrations to round out the collection.
The Daniel Johnston x Vans collection is now available at the Vans website and select stockists.
Elsewhere in footwear, Nike’s Dunk High joins the “Certified Fresh” pack.
