After filing for bankruptcy last year, Barneys New York is making a huge comeback with the help of Saks Fifth Avenue.
Saks Fifth Avenue has recently unveiled a new fifth floor at its New York flagship store for “Barneys at Saks.” The space spans across 54,000-square-feet and will soon be the new home of the luxury department store name. Similar to Barneys in the past, the brand will continue supporting and promoting emerging designers through Barneys at Saks. Many fashion powerhouses today such as Rick Owens, arguably owe their success to Barneys.
Chief merchant of Saks Fifth Avenue, Tracy Margolies said, “When conceptualizing Barneys at Saks, we focused on three core pillars to bring the brand to life in a way that is relevant for today’s luxury consumer, while celebrating the spirit of Barneys New York—discovery, the unexpected, and fun.” Under the newly revamped mission, brands such as Jerry Lorenzo‘s LA-based street cult label, Fear of God and Samuel Ross‘s London-based brand, A-COLD-WALL* are expected to appear on the fifth floor of Saks. This will also be the first time that men’s and women’s apparel will be available on the same floor.
Brands showcased at Barneys at Saks will offer a chance to bridge online and offline brand touchpoints to better synthesize consumer perception of a brand’s identity. Margolies adds, “Barneys at Saks will continue to serve as an incubator of newness and a space for emerging designers to bring their vision and story to Saks.”
