Oakley’s New Sub Zero Sunglasses Weigh “Next to Nothing”

Oakley has unearthed a relic from its early nineties archives with the relaunch of Sub Zero, an innovative and lightweight sunglasses design first released thirty years ago.

Initially designed to weigh next to nothing, this updated iteration still holds true three decades on. Reimagined in a variety of colorways, the Sub Zero — which is a part of Oakley’s “MUZM” collection — sees the original and unique lens shape from the nineties paired with today’s innovations, like Prizm Lens Technology, a shield lens design and Unobtainium nosepads and ear-socks.

To commemorate the release, Oakley has also issued a special time capsule-inspired kit to members of Oakley’s Collective of influencers, as well as Team Oakley. The kit builds on Sub Zero’s story of unearthing history via an ode to 1992, with the product enclosed in a time capsule designed with the look and feel of early ‘90s Oakley in mind.

The accompanying campaign features Team Oakley skateboarding star Aori Nishimura, who said the following of the collection: “Skate culture through the decades influences my style when I am on and off my skateboard and I am naturally drawn to unique and disruptive designs, so I was immediately into the Sub Zero. Through my own pursuit I personally connected with the attitude of being able to achieve the impossible so it’s awesome to be part of this reissue.”

The release of Sub Zero marks the first installment in the collection, with more news expected on May 12. In the meantime, you can view the Sub Zero campaign film here and shop the collection via the Oakley webstore now.
