New Instagram Update Allows Music for Photo Carousels and up to Three Collaborators per Post

Meta has officially launched a new update for Instagram that will now allow users to add music to their photo carousels as well as allow each post to have up to three collaborators or co-authors.

Instagram unveiled the new music photo carousel feature with pop star Olivia Rodrigo to promote her new single “bad idea right?” The feature gives users the chance to pick licensed music to soundtrack the slideshow. Some have noted that it draws similarity to TikTok’s Photo Mode. In a blog post, Meta shared in regards to the new update, “Whether you’re sharing a collection of summer memories with friends or moments from your camera roll, you can now add music to your photo carousels. Building off our launch of music for feed photos, anyone can add a song to capture the mood and bring their carousel to life.”

The latest in Instagram Collabs now allows the creator of a post to invite up to three friends to co-author feed posts, carousels or reels. Originally only one other contributor could be added. The post will also be featured on each account’s profile grid. Private accounts can still start posts/reels and invite collaborators as long as they follow the private account. Another update involves the Add Yours sticker. When the creator adds a new Add Yours prompt to a Reel, followers can contribute content as a response, “With the Add Yours sticker, a creator or artist can invite their followers to join in on a fun prompt or challenge they create on Reels, and then hand-pick their favorite submissions to celebrate their fans’ creativity.”

The music library is set to expand “to more countries over the coming weeks.” Roll out has officially begun for all these updates.
