New 'Exorcist' Film Trilogy In the Works With Leslie Odom Jr. and Original Actress Ellen Burstyn

A new trilogy in The Exorcist franchise is currently in the works over at Universal and Peacock.

The upcoming reboot is produced by Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Productions and will reportedly star Leslie Odom Jr. and original actress Ellen Burstyn, who will reprise her role as Regan’s (the 12-year-old who was possessed in the 1973 film) mother, Chris MacNeil. David Gordon Green will direct the first of the three films planned, as well as pen the script alongside Peter Sattler, while Jason Blum, David Robinson, James Robinson, Green, Danny McBride and Couper Samuelson will executive produce.

“There’s no better time to be joining forces with the team at Peacock, reuniting with the great team at Universal and finally getting to work with my friends at Blumhouse, than on this classic franchise,” David Robinson, Morgan Creek president, said in a statement.

Details of the trilogy remain under wraps, but this will mark the first entry in the IP since 2005’s Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist.

Stay tuned for a trailer and more details. The first film in the reboot is set to release on October 13, 2023 both in theaters and on Peacock.

Elsewhere in entertainment, an original live-action Pokémon series is coming to Netflix.
